Chapter 29

Four months later.. (As settled in the manga)

You still couldn't get over the passing of Rengoku, but your pain had subsided a little from the time that passed. You had reunited with Kanao, and were extremely happy, but Rengoku's death left a huge impact on you.

You and Hamako walked along the dirt pathway, admiring the scenery of the Butterfly Estate. You had asked Kanao who took care of the plants, but she was dragged away in a heartbeat. "Wow~ A butterfly!"

"Hamako, that's a moth."

"..Right. I knew that-"

You giggled and rubbed her head lightly, her being as adorable as now had helped the sadness subside. And being with Kanao as a three-person group had lightened the mood effectively.

"L-let me go!" A familiar yell echoed.

You and Hamako, instinctively, ran over to the shouting. And looked at the man carrying both Aoi and Naho. Kanao was trying to pull Aoi and Naho out of his grasp, and you ran up to help her.

You ran up and tried to pull Aoi out of his grip, "..Let.. go.." You said, as you strained to help Aoi out of his arm, while Kanao tried to pull Naho out.

"Who are you?"

"What're you going to those girls?! Let them go!"

You looked at the direction and saw Tanjiro. "..Tanjiro!"

He ran up the man, and tried to headbutt him. But you suddenly felt backwards, and landed on your back. You looked up to see the man on the gate entrance, "..Idiot."

"I am Tengen Uzui.. Former Ninja."

"Let go of Naho and Aoi, you kidnapper!"

Everyone started yelling at once, you rubbed your back sorely. Hamako and Kanao helped you up, "Thank you.."

Uzui started yelling back, noticeably irritated, "Don't talk to me like that! I'm a Hashira, you jerk!" You can tell that he aimed it mainly at Tanjiro.

"..Are- are you okay?" Kanao softly asked, you nodded and smiled at the two.

"Well I don't recognize you as a Hashira! Hmph!"

Uzui started yelling back, more furiously this time. You managed to stand on your feet again, sighing. "I need a member of the corps, I'm taking her!"

"B-but Naho isn't a corps member! Can't you see she isn't wearing a uniform?!" One of the little girls cried.

"Then have her back," He tossed Naho.

"N-naho!" You cried and looked at her concerningly as she got thrown from him and caught by Tanjiro.

"For now, I'll take her in this mission. She doesn't seem quite useful, but she's a corps member so she will do."

You had enough, "Let her go you jerk!"

"T-then let me go!"

"Me too!" Inosuke and Zenitsu appeared, and said in sync.

"...Then you guys come with me. Better not let me down."

He dropped Aoi, and she landed safely with Kanao and the three other girls. "..A-a-..aoi.."

You and Hamako stayed back at the Butterfly Estate. Hamako headed inside the building with the other girls, while you stayed back to say goodbye to the boys.

"Take care of them please, Y/N-chan!" Tanjiro smiled and high fives you, you smile back.

Inosuke patted your head and ranted about how he appreciated you as an underling, and you took it as a compliment.

You waved at Zenitsu and he shyly waved back, "Goodbye Zenitsu. Stay safe, alright?"

He had the looked of surprise and embarrassment all together at that moment, and you giggled before patting his head. "Good luck, bye guys."

They walked away, waving back as you did too. Slowly, they turned into silhouettes and disappeared. You went back into the Butterfly Estate.

You prayed that they'd stay safe.
