Chapter 31

You and Hamako were about to head out when Kiyo, Sumi and Naho ran up to you guys. "Y/N-san, Hamako-san!"

You two turned back and were tackle-hugged. You nearly lost balance, but Hamako wasn't so lucky. She was caught off guard and fell when Naho had tackled her. But you all laughed it off playfully.

"Good luck on your mission! We'll miss you~!"

You and Hamako waved at them as they waved back, as you walked farther they disappeared into the horizon. "..Do you think we will be safe on this mission?"

"Every mission is dangerous, I can't promise that we won't get hurt but.."

You looked at Hamako.

"I'll make sure that at least you're safe."

Hamako's bottom lip twitched, before she swung her arms around you. "S-stop making it seem like you're gonna die..! Don't scare me like that."

You laughed and hugged her close, "Then I'll make sure both of us accomplish it alive."

"Are you two heading to the town?"

"W-wha-"

The person sighed, "More people to carry.. Alright, put this on."

"Wait, what? Why- Where are- Hey what are you doing?!" Mysterious person wrapped a headband around Hamako, and then your, eyes.

"..Are we there ye-"

"No."

You snickered under your breath, Hamako has been asking that or similar questions (at least) every five minutes, but it somehow didn't annoy you. You were probably used to it since you've known Hamako for a while.

Since you had the blindfold on you couldn't see, of course. Everything was black, despite the constant daylight in the woods. When you had finally arrived at the town, Hamako had fallen asleep.

When you untied your blindfold, the sunlight blinded your eyes. It took a while to finally adjust, but you were having trouble waking Hamako up. "If you can't wake her up, then carry her to a house that'll let you two stay and rest."

"W-wha- Aren't you gonna come in the town too?" You questioned as she put Hamako's sleeping body on your back.

"I must go and finish the errands I have to run." She gave a small answer, and she was off.

You looked around the town wonderously, trying to find a house that looks welcoming enough. Luckily you found a place where a small family lived. They didn't seem to have a lot of money, but managed to have plenty of meals a day.

You didn't feel very comfortable taking their food for free, without any payment back. But they had brushed it off and generously fed you well.

Sorely, you sat down and tried to stretch out your muscles.

"There is a hot spring nearby. You can go and visit it. I heard it heals different types of stuff including sore muscle pain."

"R-really?" You looked at Hamako patiently, "But what about Hamako? I can't leave her here by herself.."

"Trust us, we will watch over her. You need to have a break after your long trip."

You hesitantly nodded, a good bath in a hot spring seemed very tempting.

When you got there, you noticed a women with pink hair with the tips green. You were about to go to another side of the spring before she turned around and waved brightly at you, "Hiya! Are you here to bathe in the hot spring too?"

Her joyful persona gave you comfortable vibes, and you got closer. Her vibrant pink and green hair, along with her eyes, reminded you of Sakura Mochi.

"What's your name?" She asked once you got in with her, you let down your hair and felt the tingly sensation on your scalp.

"Y/N, Y/N L/N."

"Ooh~ I'm Mitsuri Kanroji, I think I saw you around in the Butterfly Estate before."

You looked at her surprised, was she part of the Demon Slayer Corps too?

Mitsuri started to ramble on about random stuff, but you listened. The stories she told were very intersting. You didn't want to miss a part.

Mitsuri and you got along well, you talked about different subjects you liked. And apparently Mitsuris hair turned pink and green because she ate too much Sakura mochi.

It wasn't long until you remembered Hamako, so you had to leave. "Aww man. You're so fun to talk to." She sighed, "Have a safe trip back, Y/N~! Hope to see you again!"

She waved as you walked off, waving back at her. When you got back, the lights were dimmed in the main room, and Hamako laid there quietly. You hung your towel on a shelf and sat near Hamako, sighing quietly.

You hadn't realized you dozed off until Hamako suddenly called your name, and you looked at her. She looked like she had just woken up, and was using her elbow as a rest to sit up.

"When did we get here? Where are we?" She looked around at the unfamiliar place.

"Oh- I guess you don't remember." You were about to explain when the little boy from the family came in, with wide eyes seeing that Hamako had awakened.

"Welcome back Y/N-san."

"My mom cooked dinner for you, if you want to come then follow me."

You glanced at Hamako, who seemed to be starving as she was sleeping for a while. "We will come."

Hamako and you got up and followed him, and arrived at the dining room.

There were small vases on the shelves, and some cabinets were crept open to reveal even more vases. You assumed that they were a pottery family.

As you ate, Hamako quietly munched on the food.

And then suddenly there was a loud bang.
