Tension Builds

I am walking out of the gates and lift my head looking straight ahead of me as my feet come to a stop. I stand there staring at the person in front me only a few metres away.

I gush of wind blows in between us as if stating the obvious that there is a distance and separation between us; like two clifts with a gorge down the centre. My brown fringe blows to one side as my eyes are locked with the other’s eyes.

“Hiroshi…”

It’s been quite a while since we’ve actually met in person. We have one phone call once a week but it’s only a brief talk as I don’t talk much. I frown a little unsure why he is here. What could he possibly want to see me for?

His deep chocolate coloured eyes pierce me with a calm look. His arms are folded over his chest as he leans against his red Mercedes. There is silence between us, a heavy tension and awkward silence. Most of the students have already left the school on their buses and cars or walking and bikes. At any rate the school had become empty, a ghost town.

I see that he hasn’t changed a bit since we last saw each other. He is still tall and broad around the shoulders, a bulky man with a gentle expression. His arms thick and muscular and his face still narrow and long with a broad forehead.  His black hair is a little longer but combed and gelled back neatly. Hiroshi is a business man so he has to dress smartly. He wears a red tie and a black suit. I hear he is also very successful with his job. He now earns quite a lot of money. I don’t know what he does exactly for his job but he goes to the inner city of Tokyo and works in one of those tall sky risers

He unfolds his arms and pushes off the car. He takes a step closer to me closing the gap little by little.

“Hello, Shiro...”

“Why are you here Hiroshi?” I ask gently and lower my gaze slightly. It’s not that I don’t like him it’s just I don’t know what to say. I wonder what he wants.

“You haven’t got any plans for today have you?” I open my mouth to speak but then close it. What if he knows I’ve moved out? I guess I kind of forgot to tell him. I hesitate before I speak, rethinking my answer. Can I say I’m waiting for my teacher? I don’t even know if Hiroshi is against two men dating. Man this makes it so much harder to stay calm. Since I’ve become more open all my thoughts, my emotions, they have all become hard to control. I don’t think it is a good thing too.

“Well…I’m waiting to go home with someone…” I hope he understands but what if why he has come to meet me is important?

“I see.” He pauses and puts a hand in his pocket. “Is it necessary to wait? Is something important happening today that you can’t say sorry?” He looks me in the eye with a very slight frown. It almost sounds like I am being forced to say sorry to Akatsuki that I’m going with my adopted father today but Akatsuki is at a meeting and I’m sure Hiroshi doesn’t want to wait around until that is finished. What should I do?

“It’s not but-“

“Good, well would you accompany me into the car? There are a few things I want to discuss. If you please.” He gestures to the car. He cut me off and makes my plans for me. I should leave a letter or something on Akatsuki’s car telling where I’ve gone as I don’t have his phone number. I must grab it soon.

“Can I please write a note to leave on my friend’s car? I don’t have their contact number.” He nods in approval then I put my bag on the ground and search in it for a piece of paper and pen before I start writing on it.

To Akatsuki, I’m sorry but I won’t be home until later tonight. Hiroshi, my adopted dad, came and wants me to spend the afternoon with him. I’ll see you soon. From Shiro
