Never did (Y/n) think that she would have to wake up in the middle of the night. Never did she think she would get dragged into the woods by her own mother only to see her two sister's on their knees with an angry face.
The seven year old felt cold underneath her soaked silky nightgown. She felt herself shaking and shivering but didn't dare to say anything knowing that her mother would give her a small glare. It was raining outside, their nightgowns were soaked with mud and grass stains from how long they had been running through the forest in hopes of escaping for a better life.
Those who lived outside of the eight kingdoms were considered lucky, they didn't have to fear for their life everyday. They didn't have to wake up to the sound of gunshot echoing through out the kingdom. They were trapped inside the kingdoms like how pigs were trapped inside their cages. Counting the days until a finger was pointed at them, followed by a gunshot.
One of them slipped onto the mud, her weak body couldn't handle the cold anymore. She was breathing hard, the air felt tight around her body. She pulled herself back up, glaring at her mother who seemed to be enjoying the view in front of her. Both girls looked like street rats wet and covered in mud. Anyone would mistake them as scums instead of the princesses who were going to rule the kingdom in a few months. They didn't understand how someone could be so cruel. They were human too, just like everyone else. No one deserved to die in such a horrifying way.
"People with no money deserve nothing, they're only wasting precious space in this kingdom." or at least that's what their mother always said. The words were drilled into their heads, hoping that her daughters wouldn't become trash like their father.
"Are you really going to shoot your daughters in the heads?!" One of the daughters finally spoke, her voice cracked, shaking from the fear of getting shot. "This is insane!"
Her mother rolled her eyes, she clicked her tongue in annoyance. She crossed her arms, becoming impatient. They were all freezing, the wealthy were always sensitive to the cold. She couldn't wait to go back to her warm palace and drink her hot milk.
"Of course not, the guards will."
She snapped her fingers, ordering the guards to raise their guns towards the two daughters. The guards shook in slight fear, they didn't want to be the bad guys who shot two nineteen year olds in the head.
"The curse is never going to be lifted if you keep killing people!" She begged for her to listen but her mother had lost her hearing ages ago. She ignores everyone, including her family.
"See (Y/n), this is what happens when you try to protect the rats." Her mother whispered into her ear. The smell of smoke burned her nose, an instant headache drew over her and she suddenly felt nervous. (Y/n) gulped quietly to herself, finding the ground more interesting than what was happening in front of her.
Her mother raised her hand, ordering them to shoot. Without hesitating the guards did as they were told. (Y/n) flinched from the loud noise, she heard only the THUMP of their bodies falling onto the snow.
She felt her sister's blood splatter onto her cold cheek. It was warm and it itched when it rolled down her face. The gunshots made her ears ring but it didn't bother her anymore, she was used to waking up to the sound of another guard being ordered to shoot another citizen every morning. It was normal, no one was surprised when they saw another body being carried into the palace basement. They all knew where it was going to anyway.
(Y/n) slid down her white glove to scratch her arm. The itchy fabric was constantly annoying her but her mothers rules were strict. She did what she was told, kept her mouth shut when she wasn't supposed to speak, learned her manners, eat everything they served her and never leave the palace grounds. If she happened to mess one thing up then she would receive a punishment. Not a slap on the hand or getting a swat on your bottom, no, not that kind of punishment. If any daughter of (M/n) messed one thing up that could possibly ruin her reputation then they would get thrown out in the cold, specifically outside in the garden where no civilians could see a freezing child suffering in the cold.
