The sound of someone humming woke her up from her sleep. This time (y/n) didn't wake up in a carriage, nor her tent. She didn't wake up in a strangers room or even beside Feitan.
She woke up in her own room, the one she used to share with her older sisters. Everything was exactly like it had been the night before they ran off. The floor was covered with a white layer of snow. There was a storm outside yet the silence inside the room was louder.
One of her sisters finally noticed her.
"Freeze for eternity or freeze your eternity?"
"What?" She asked, taking another step forward only to finally see her reflection staring back at her. Her hand pressed against the mirror and then she realized it was no mirror, it was a frozen wall. She was caged around it.
Their questions had her head aching with pain. There was a drumming beat in her ears that she couldn't get rid of. It had started off quietly and now it was starting to hurt her ears.
Her chin dipped and she jolted awake from the loud sound.
"Good morning, your grace." A soft voice spoke from across the room. On the other side of the door stood a woman, one she recognized immediately but her mind was struggling to remember her name.
"Who are you?" She looked down at her hands, her nails stained red. That only meant one thing and she had realized it a little too late. The drumming in her ear hadn't gone away, that was real.
Oh no. A sick feeling trickled in her stomach and she bolted up to her feet when she noticed the iron room she was in. It was freezing as well, almost as if they truly wanted her to go all out in here. The iron would stop her, iron had always stopped her.
"You don't recognize me? That's a shame since I recognize you."
"Theta." She rolled her eyes, now everything was starting to make sense. The iron cage she was in told her she was truly far...far away from her home. Very far away from her home. Feitan was no where near her, he couldn't save her.
"You woke up right on time my lady, everyone is ready to start the ceremony." Her smile reached her eyes. "Finally, it's that time of the year again where you'll be in the hunt. You won last year, will we be seeing you as the winner for this year as well?"
"How long have I been asleep?"
She frowned, somewhat annoyed that nothing she said had been heard but then she smiled once more. "Days."
Feitan. She blinked, now remembering that she had argued with him a few minutes before completely blacking out.
"And Fei- and my guard? Where is he at?"
Her smile faltered and (y/n) was quick to notice. She was glad she didn't say his name.
"Do you remember anything from before you turned?"
"No. I never do."
"You attacked my guards, you attacked my people and you almost killed me as well. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed especially when your mother preached for years about her daughter always being on her best behavior."
(Y/n) took a step closer towards the door, quick to notice how Theta moved away, almost as if she was waiting for her to jump at her. And then (y/n) realized where the drumming was coming from. For a moment she thought it was her own heart beating loudly but she felt rather relaxed in a cell. Her eyes dart back to the woman in front of her and then (y/n) finally realized the drumming was coming from inside her. Her heart was racing and it was loud as well. She did well to hide her panic...or excitement?
