The water was cold, chilling her entire body like an icy hand. It wasn't pleasant, but the fear of any more harm happening to Jayden than he already suffered was all she could focus on now. It had her drowning herself deeper in its merciless coldness, her body swimming with speed to reach the bottom, following Jayden down as her vision blurred with panic.
He had been unconscious since the moment she had found him submerged, after several attempts to keep himself afloat. She reached nearer, grabbing under his arms from behind right before his body landed on the ceramic base, and began to swim them both towards the surface.
During her strenuous swimming, her blurry vision found two new bodies jumping into the depths of the water, coming towards them with a determination to help, which made her gasp in relief; she had barely reached the surface yet her muscles were already crushed with fatigue.
She knew it was her fault for jumping into the water impulsively to save him, but what else could she have done? It was not in her doctor's nature to stand and watch someone drown, not when that person was under her care and the entire situation happened because of her inability to stand a simple kiss. Above all that, she was still glad to see his loyal bodyguards coming to their rescue.
They came close enough, their professional training taking over as they pushed down the pool and took the young master from her hold. She rejected their support with a polite shaking of the head, knowing she still had enough strength to help herself out of the water.
However, once they had climbed to the surface of the pool, one of the guards took a step forward to assist her, and that offer she couldn't reject.
Maria climbed onto the bank, her clothing completely soaked but that was the least of her worries. All she could focus on was the unconscious man lying flat on the ground, his eyes tightly shut as his mouth was parted with faint breaths, his blonde hair drenched from the cold water, sticking to his face as it dripped on top of his forehead.
He looked pale, the motionless sight of him crumbling her soul, making the depths of her stomach squirm with guilt. The poor man was yet to recover from his recent trauma, and yet he had encountered another life-threatening event so quickly because of her negligence.
Tucking every wet strand behind her shivering ears, she crawled nearer to his immobile figure, offering to give first aid before the ambulance arrived. "Let-let me help" she spoke to Daniel in shaky breaths, her hands trembling as they reached out to touch his bare chest.
The assistant immediately paved way for her, knowing there was no other person more suitable for administering CPR amidst the flashy party-goers than the doctor herself.
Lowering her head against his, she waited for signs of breathing that came indistinctly. His chest didn't move when she began to press down, not even the slightest hint of life from the unmoving body, forcing her to apply more violent pressure, compressing him repeatedly.
"Please come back..." The words came in light whispers as she pressed harder on the fleshy area over his heart, willing some energy from him to revive his life. "Please, Jayden..." She repeated the request, hoping her efforts were heard and he would open his eyes at least, but nothing happened.
Her lashes batted heavily with her desperation, feeling tears pricking against her lids, her lips moving into prayer as she checked for any signs of breathing once more but there was no improvement.
Maria balanced herself well on her knees, looking up to meet the concerned face of the personal assistant. He knelt beside her, placing a hand over the young man's heart to check the state of his condition while she prepped herself for another method of reviving him.
