The man that now stood beside me had pure-white hair and bright-blue, intelligent eyes. He would not move any closer than a meter away from me, leading me to suspect that he was not fond of me, already.
He wore a white fur coat, and his eyes flickered from Jade to me. A glimpse at Jade told me that she was afraid. Her eyes were widened in surprise, and her mouth was left slightly open.
The man attempted to take a step closer to her. She leaned back an inch, trying to stay away from him. I knew that the other three wolves were behind her. I did what my instinct told me to do, and I moved between the man and Jade.
The man immediately backed away a step, and a hint of humor flashed over his bright eyes.
"You humans and vampires are funny creatures," He said in a soft, yet husky tone. "Always doing the unexpected and killing each other. And then forgiving each other without words. Words are really your only communication, because none of you study each others' facial expressions or even movements. You're all too caught up with yourselves. So why do you do it?"
I was as lost in his words as I had ever been in anybody else's. The man stayed still, a grin forming on his face.
"You are really quite stubborn, too. Walking through a forest late at night, all alone. Running TOWARDS the screaming instead of away. You never learn!" He barked out, laughing afterwards.
I got the impression that the man wasn't exactly sane.
The man looked between us, as confusion blossomed over his snow, pale features.
"Aren't you going to argue with that?" He questioned, almost sadly.
Jade had no intention of replying, so I did the best that I could manage.
"Why bother to argue when I know that you'll send the rest of your pack on us?" I answered, a hint of impatience gathering in my tone.
The man chuckled, the humor still gleaming in his intelligent eyes.
"No, vampire. Just you," He murmured calmly, the smile fading eagerly from his lips.
