I regretted leaving Phoenix alone with a creature that I barely knew. I regretted it even more, now that I was standing in front of the Camp that we used to call home.

Flames were tumbling over tents, eating the place that I had lived in for my whole life. I looked around to see if I could find mine. My tent stood at least six feet away from me, and it was already aflame, as the fire climbed over it.

I felt my heart rise up in my mouth as all of my emotions tried to choke me, there and then. Sadness flooded over me, as the anger for the person who caused this devastation boiled in the pit of my stomach.

My jaw tightened as I saw a golden feather fall from the heavens above. My brain didn't catch that part of the detail until it had softly landed at my feet.

A gasp fled my mouth as I looked up.

Arius was flapping his wings around in the smoke, his front talons curved. He looked godly, even though the smoke was obviously choking him up.

"Arius!" I shouted up at the golden Griffin. "Arius!"

The mighty Griffin finally spotted me. Once I had his attention I began to run to the opening, the only part that wasn't licked away by flames. Dodging numerous trees as I went, I ran, putting all of my energy into this pitiful task. Finally, when I had outrun most of the fire, I allowed myself to have a quick rest.

I crouch and panted, my heart feeling as if it were about to fly out of my mouth.

Arius landed calmly beside me, as if we had just gone for a quick walk around the forest on a normal day. A day when I wasn't helping a vampire, and a day when I wasn't watching my home burn straight before my eyes.

I quickly mounted Arius, smoke clogging up my  lungs at every passing second. I tried to hold my breath, but my lungs were screaming for air, like a child whose candy was stolen from them.

Once Arius was in the air, the smoke quickly thickened and my eyes watered from the sheer power of it. Yet still, I managed to feel the same feeling that Griffin Riding always gifted to me.

I felt free, peaceful and powerful, too. It was if nothing else existed but Arius, myself and the sky that had no boundaries.

No, I reminded myself. There was my sister, the possibly friendly vampire and the human, as well.

I knew that Phoenix was smart enough to have ordered them to run with her. And I had to find them.
