Arius flew steadily, needing no help from me. I was searching below, looking for any sign of my sister and her associates. It was almost impossible to see through the pitch darkness below, but with my keen senses, I managed it.
I saw a glimmer of light hidden under a firm tree. At first glance I thought a new fire had begun to crawl up the firm tree and possibly kill off even more wildlife, but I soon realized that it was a person holding up a lamp.
I yelled down, using all of my voice even though my throat felt like parchment.
"Phoenix!"
The lantern stopped moving, and I was only just able to hear a shout back.
"You should have just whistled! You do realize that if the forest was set on fire deliberately than the chances are rather high that the person who did this is still here, right? Do you want to get yourself killed?" Phoenix ranted, her tone worried.
I urged Arius to lower himself so that I could dismount him safely.
As soon as Arius could see that I was safe, he once again flew towards the moon, barely missing the long, bare branches.
The human was rather slow, and complained over the simple things that were natural to them, like how her legs were aching. I wasn't bothered by this, as phoenix complained even more when it was just her and I.
"We will head towards the human's homes," I informed everybody as we walked on. "All wolf packs have similar laws, and one of the most common is the human law. We cannot kill them, or even harm them without reason."
I noticed the vampire tense up, his eyes tightened.
"What's the matter?" I asked him, calmly.
"I have a few... 'friends' who live around there. It might not be such a good idea to get involved with them," He murmured, still looking ahead.
"I say we take the risk," I said, my voice filled with determination.
"Why not listen to my advice? I obviously know them better than you do," The vampire grimaced, regretting his words almost instantly.
"Because,' I sighed, expecting that they would have realized the dull fact. "Because I am now Alpha."
