My brain was immediately woken by the sound of screaming. In one simple yet swift motion, I was back on my feet and moving towards the screaming that was piercing my ears.
The cold wind sent chills down my spine, and made me feel more alive than I had ever felt for the last two weeks. The forest, from what I had heard from the taxi driver, held all kinds of innocent and dangerous things.
"From mulberries to Russell Viper's in a simple minute," He had told me.
I began to run once the screams became shorter. The forest was dark, and only because of my excellent vision was I able to see the white fur of a wolf. Almost immediately after it saw me, it began to whimper. I could hear gasping from the creature that the snow-white wolf had hunted.
Looking around the wolf, I noticed three more cowering in the shadows. I stared at the white one, which was obviously the Alpha. I did not release my gaze until he was also sent cowering into the almost pure darkness, like the others.
I knelt down beside the creature, quite obviously human. As it shuddered I noticed the deep, red blood that was seeping into the tangle of leaves, moss, mud and dirt.
I rolled the person over, and through the knotted, messy black hair, a pair of piercing green eyes met mine.
"Jade?" I whispered, even though my voice was faltering.
The voice that answered was barely recognizable. I had always remembered Jade's voice to be as sweet as a lullaby and her laugh like honey. Her new voice was none of these. It was as rough as sandpaper, and as raw as splintered wood.
Her eyes were glued to mine, as if she herself were dead.
"You", She whispered in her bold, new voice before she gripped something beside her. I gazed into her face, searching with all of my heart for forgiveness.
The only thing I really found was a silver dagger heading straight for my heart.
