When we got back to my house, well past sundown, Sawyer was asleep in the back of my car. We had stopped at In and Out for dinner, and as soon as my little girl ate, she passed right on out.
Lizzie quietly got out of the car and walked around to my window. "I'll see you later, Mae. I promised Ashley I would give her a call when I get home. I'll text tomorrow."
"Okay, goodnight. Get home safe, okay?" I told her.
"Yes ma'am." She giggled before turning around and heading towards her car.
I rolled the window up and shut off my car. Sebastian followed suit as I got out of the car.
"Thank you again for inviting me today. I had a really great time." He said as I walked around to car.
"Do you want to come inside for some coffee? I have to put her in bed but you can stay for a little while." I asked him.
He hesitated for a second, looking at Sawyer through the car. "You sure? I don't want to disrupt anything."
I waved him off. "She'll be out for a while." It only took me a minute to carefully and slowly unbuckle her and then wrap her up in my arms. I was incredibly thankful that she was a heavy sleeper. It was definitely something she didn't get from me.
Sebastian opened the gate and then my door for me and I whispered that I would be back.
Sawyer's door was luckily open and once I set her sleeping body down on the bed, I pulled off her shoes and then clothes to put on her pajamas. I didn't have the heart to wake her up to put on her pull ups; so I knew that I would be waking up to a mess tomorrow. I also knew if I did decide to wake her she wouldn't be asleep for hours.
Once she was settled I turned on the fish night light and left the room.
"Okay, sorry." I half laughed as I walked into the kitchen where Sebastian was petting Bird. "Hey Birdie."
"So I'm guessing Sawyer picked out his name?"
"Yeah, when she was three. She was obsessed with birds. It was birds everything for her." I said with a smile as I remembered how into the flying creatures my daughter was.
"That's adorable," He laughed.
I started making a pot of coffee and I couldn't help but think how nearly twelve hours ago, Sebastian and I were drinking coffee in this very spot. The day had went by very fast, so much so that I didn't really feel it. I felt like I could go for much longer.
