Robert,

This is my second draft of this letter. I will probably write another thousand before I have the nerve to send them. But I'm running out of time to do so. You see, I'm dying. I only have a few weeks left in me. And I've accepted that. I've lived a beautiful life. I don't have many regrets.

I raised two beautiful children. One of whom, you're the father of. I doubt you remember the night we met. Eighteen years ago. At that stupid club in downtown LA. My face won't even be in your memory, I'm sure of it.

Either way, you're the father of a beautiful woman. I named her Maeve, after my grandmother. Robert, you'll love her. She's so beautiful. And she's gifted, much like you. Her knack for writing, for telling stories, it's a gift. She's always been a vivid story teller. Since she was a little girl. She's so smart, too.

And she has your eyes. That chocolate shade of brown. Do you remember I told you that when we first met? I doubt you do.

She's going to Colombia this fall. I'm nervous. She'll be without family for the first time in her life. But it's her dream that's pulling her there. She reminds me of you. Do you remember how you told me of all the things you wanted to do in your life? Perhaps if we had more time... if I hadn't had left so quickly... maybe things would have turned out different.

I wanted to write to you many times. I tried to call when I first found out. But it was impossible to get in touch with you. And you were at the start of your career. I knew a child would only bring things down. You had so much going on... with your father, the drugs, I didn't think adding a baby to your plate would do any good.

I don't know if I'll have the nerve to send this, or if you'll even get it. Maybe I'll write another thousand letters. Either way, Robert, she's yours.

When I die, she'll be left with her brother and my parents. She needs a father. She needs guidance still, she needs a parent.

Please Robert, if not for me, for her. She needs you.

- Sawyer
