i stared at a polaroid of me and steve for god knows how long.
steve walked in at 4am, hickies on his neck which he poorly covered with makeup.
"baby, what are you doing still up?" he asked softly. like he still cared.
i held up the polaroid, tears in my eyes. "what happened..?"

"you're a liar, steve. a liar." i burried my head in my hands.

i heard steve take a deep breath in, something he did to try and control his anger, which never actually worked.

"you know what- i'm not going to fucking let you play the victim here! if you were actually there for me, actually acted like you cared, then we would't be here!!" steve yelled.

that was the first time he's ever lashed out on you.

"you're trying to tell me that it's my fault that you decided to cheat?!" i yelled back.

"no, that's- fuck.. i fucking needed you y/n. and you were always gone, working! you made me feel like i didn't matter!" he screamed.

i was shocked. "and you could've told me.. instead you decided to sleep with my best friend?! can you imagine how much my heart broke having to hear it from her?!" i sobbed.

"it wasn't just the sex, y/n. she made me feel like i mattered!"

"and i didn't?" i slowly looked up.

we made eye contact.

"you did."

"so, not anymore..?" i whispered.

he shook his head.

"i'm sorry we didn't work out.." steve said, clenching his jaw.

you nodded. "thank you for the best year of my life," you finally said. "goodbye, steve."
