"I cannot believe you did that," Angelina said to Olivia once she had heard the news of the prank on Mr. Filch. "What's gotten into you?"
"George," Alicia answered for her, smirking.
Angelina shook her head. "Those boys are a bad influence on you, Liv."
"You act as if it isn't your fault I'm friends with them," Olivia said. "Besides, they're not bad influences. I've always been like this."
"Yeah, now she just has the excuse to be herself at school," Alicia said. She was quite proud of her best friend, but Angelina was worried.
"I just don't want you ruining your reputation just so a boy will like you," she said.
"I'm not, Lina," Olivia said. "We didn't get caught. Filch didn't suspect a thing. In fact, I should probably find him later and apologize profusely for not being able to find the twins just to be safe. Thanks for the reminder."
"That's not my point! You might have gotten away with it this time, but you get caught all the time at home, and there's like a hundred times more people here. You'll get caught eventually and then what's going to happen to that badge of yours, huh?"
"I get caught at home because I don't put the effort into not being caught. And nothing will happen to my badge, once students are appointed prefects it can't be undone. So even if I did get caught, they could give me all the detentions they wanted, but I'd still be a prefect. But I won't get caught, so..." She looked down at her prefect's badge and made a disgusted face. "Ergh. This thing could use a bit of polishing, though." Angelina facepalmed and Olivia looked up at the clock. "Come on. We've got to get to Study Hall."
The girls left the common room and ten minutes later entered Study Hall. They spotted Fred and George and sat across from them. Unfortunately, Professor Snape would be supervising them, so there would be no talking.
Olivia was nearly done with the work they had been assigned when she felt something hit her shoulder. She saw a paper ball land in front of her and another in front of Angelina. Both of them looked up and saw Fred and George grinning at them. The twins began to make hand gestures and dance in their seats, all the while mouthing "Do you want to go to the ball with me?"
Olivia's face flushed red and the butterflies were worse than ever as she exchanged a smile with Angelina and nodded at George. Both girls looked back at their homework, goofy grins on their faces.
Alicia nudged her. "What'd I tell you?" she whispered.
"Shut up," Olivia whispered back, still smiling uncontrollably.
The next two weeks or so leading up to the Yule Ball went by quickly, and before she knew it, Olivia was walking back to the girls' dormitories with Angelina and Alicia to get ready.
"I still don't get why we need to start getting ready three hours prior," Olivia said.
"Quit complaining," Angelina said. "You'll be grateful in a few hours that you're not rushing to do it all in fifteen minutes."
"I always do things in fifteen minutes and it works out fine."
"Yeah, and every time you're pulling your hair out and saying you would like nothing more than to throw yourself into the fire. Just listen to us for a change."
