Chapter 1: The Start

Samantha's POV

Its the first day of school is here...."Why does life hate me so!!". Well might as well get ready though since I have no choice.

I quickly put on some dark blue skinny jeans and a black band t-shirt of the 1975. After what seemed like forever of trying to find my shoes I finally decided on wearing my converse.

While looking for my sweater I just happen to finally find my other shoes next to my sweater.

"Why?!", before I knew it I was on my knees.

"Why are you on your knees?"

"Huh?" I look up to see my older brother Jake looking at me weirdly.

Jake just happens to be my almost older brother. He was born in January, then 11 months later I was born in December but he was held back so hes in my grade. How you may ask? I have no clue.

"Can't you see I'm preparing myself for my miserable day?"(note the sarcastic voice)

"It can't be that bad. I mean you are gonna see your friends again, you know the ones that aren't aloud to come over."

"Thats right I haven't seen Ellie in like forever. Then theres Maribel even though I saw her in the summer program."

"I mis.." He didn't need to finish his sentence because I already knew he liked Maribel since they met. I mean they are like best friends because of who knows why. But honestly I don't know how she feels about him or anyone.

"Aww...does my brother have a crush?" I looked at him and started to try wiggling my eyebrows. Which I failed doing so.

He was about to say something when our dad called us,"Guys, its already 7:12! Get your butts down her and eat your breakfast!"

"Ok be down in a sec dad!"

"Come on get your stuff I'll see you downstairs.",my brother grumbled.

I sighed. Time for school. I got my backpack and headed downstairs. Jake was already there eating his waffles. I saw my plate and started eating.

"Wheres mom?"

"Why don't you look for her."

"Shut up Jake,I wasn't talking to you!"

"You are now."

I got up from my chair ready to punch his face when I felt a tug on my arm.

"Calm down Samantha. Jake, stop bothering your sister! And your mother is in the shower."

I quickly finished eating then went to go brush my teeth and hair. I decided to put my hair in a ponytail. I was just about to leave when my brother called me.

"Samantha!"

"What?!" I ran to his room seeing him holding my glasses." I can't believe I almost forgot it." Before I can even grab it he held it high above his head. "Whats the magic word?" I groaned. "Thank you"

I swipe it from his hands,left the house,and started running to school. Even though its just a block away and school starts at 8am. I checked my watch 7:41.

I sighed, they hadn't let anyone in the school yet when I got there. As I waited, I saw my best friend, Annemarie.

"Annemarie! Over here!" I said while waving.

She looked confused then started looking around until she saw me and smiled. She started running toward me and engulfed me in a hug. "Samantha! I thought I was gonna be here first and alone." I smiled. "Well I do live just a block away." She just shrugged and asked me what my schedule would be like.

"I don't know but I hope we have the same classes like last year."

"Samantha." It was my brother. What does he want now? "Umm, have you...umm...seen Maribel yet?" All I could think of and do is just smirk at him. Before I could make any comment I saw Maribel walking with her head down obviously looking depressed again. "Jake, she is walking toward us as we speak."

She looked up and saw us and smiled. In a blink of an eye she was already hugging me. "Hola guys!!" She hugged Annemarie too but she doesn't hug guys unless its her family. So she just smiles at Jake. "Hi."

"Hey Maribel. Umm I wanted to as...." Before I knew it Maribel ran to hug Ellie.

"Ellie!!!" You could tell Ellie was annoyed yet she hugged her back. Behind Ellie was our other friend, Alice. "Hey guys."

Before I could respond the bell rang. I checked my watch and saw it was 8:13. Then the announcement went on,"Sorry for the delay students we had technical difficulties."

"All right then. Let all hell break loose." I laughed at Maribel's comment.
