Chapter 6: New Years

Sam's POV

Today is New Years when everyone is excited and happy, that is except for Jake. Ever since he found out Maribel was now Alex's girlfriend, hes been depressed.

I texted Annemarie since I was bored out of my mind.

To Annemarie
Hey

From Annemarie
Sam!! Guess what!

To Annemarie
What?!

From Annemarie
I'm going to New York City for New Years!

To Annemarie
Lucky

From Annemarie
You are coming with me! I talked to your parents and they said yes as long as Jake is able to go!!

To Annemarie
Who else is going?

From Annemarie
Me, my older sister, and Maribel

To Annemarie
How were you able to get Maribel?

From Annemarie
I convinced her parents and they said yes!

To Annemarie
Really?! I can't even get her to come over. Im so excited! Im gonna tell Jake. Gtg bye :)

Bye :) be there in 10

Yes I'm going to New York City! I quickly ran out my room to Jake. " Jake! Guess what!"

"Unless Alex either hurt Maribel's feeling or he broke up with her, I don't give a damn."

"What if we are going to New York City and Maribel is invited?"

"What?!"

"Did I mention that only me, you, Maribel, Annemarie and her sister are going?"

"What?!"

"Hurry up we are leaving now!" Quickly he started to get dressed and so did I. I'm all ready with my red jacket and Jake was ready with his blue jacket. I was excited when the door bell rang. "Bye mom and dad!",me and Jake said in a unison. I opened the door to see freezing Maribel. "Took you guys long enough...hey Jake."

"Maribel your freezing!"

"Of course she is! She only has a small jacket!"

"You guys are weird."

"Here Maribel take my gloves."

"Nah its ok hurry we got to go!" She started walking towards the car until Jake grabbed her and carried her bridal style. "Jake is this really necessary?"

"You are freezing to death! Of course it is!" We got in the car and were on our way.

Two hours later we got there and some people were already there. "Guys its 5:59, do you guys want to look around and eat later"

"Sure Scarlet."

"Alright lets go!"

The first thing we did was go to Rockerfella Center. It was huge with so many stores and Maribel was really happy when she saw The Tonight Show with Jimmey Fallon was going on around midnight there.

We eventually settled on going to a pizzaria while Annemarie and her sister went to Starbucks.

Jake kept staring at Maribel while they were talking.

After that we started shopping a little but mostly Scarlet and Annemarie.

Before we knew it, it was already 11:02.

"Guys we got to go now!" They checked their watch and started running with me to central park. It was really crowded there were many people waiting for the ball to drop.

Apparently we had to wear masks so that was weird. But you know oh well. For a second I was lost and didn't recognize anybody. But I saw my friends by my side. This place looks so amazing with all the decorations.

My thoughts were interrupted by someone.

"Hello."

"Oh hi" I took out my phone and pretended to be busy. I had no idea who this guy was. For all I know he could be an axe murderer.

"You look familiar. Whats your name?" I just looked at him wondering why he wants to know my name. "I can't do that. You are a stranger." He pouted which I found cute and attracting. Dammit keep your head together Sam! "I like you. You remind me of a girl I know."

"A girl you know? Well tell me about you and this girl."

"I can't." He said his smile fading.

I frowned. "Why not?"

"Your a stranger, plus its complicated."

"Well played. But seriously tell me. Maybe I can help you with this girl."

"Ok I guess. Well shes amazing, smart, and kind."

"And wha-" I was cut off by a man with a microphone, "Ladies and gents. The time has come! Lets start the count down! 20,19,18-"

"I guess you'll be having another year with this girl."

"Thanks for listening and any tips?"

"Just tell her how you feel." Before I knew it we were really closed to each. Everything went by so slow that you can hear the faint sound of the countdown. "10,9,8-" said the crowd.

"May I?" Knowing what he meant I nodded knowing we won't ever see each other again.

Then his lips meant mine as they all shouted,"0! Happy New Year!"

"You may all take off your masks!", the man said. He started taking off his but even though he didn't fully take it off, I knew who he was.

"I'm Collin Laker." Before I knew it I ran, losing him in the crowd, grabbed Annemarie and Scarlet and told them I have to go. Annemarie looked at me weird and saw Collin. "Shit, Scarlet we got to go! Wheres Maribel and Jake?" I looked around and saw them hugging. They joined us. "Sam I saw Collin and hes watching me talking to you."
