CHAPTER 11

*******JACE'S POV*******

I woke up and Carmen was sleeping in my lap. It had been a little over a week until she finally caved and accepted to be friends with me. She had refused to talk to me for a week and last week, one of the goons had come in and pulled a knife on her. She thankfully wasn't harmed but it had freaked her out so much, she had come running into my arms and cried for hours. After that, we talked for a long while and had gotten to know each other. Her favorite color was purple, she liked pandas and she had a baby brother on the way. I could tell she wanted to cry again when she said that, I don't blame her; she had lost her family, and friends. I couldn't blame her for being upset. She was really funny and she seemed to loosen up after she got to know me. She even apologized for calling me a freak. I was surprised that she was so sweet, she was an awesome girl. It had only been a week but if already felt like we were best friends. I knew she trusted me now and I trusted her. I had explained to her that we were both in the same situation here and we needed each other if we were going to get through this. She agreed and after that, she opened up to me. I felt her stir and looked down and saw her looking up at me smiling.

"Good morning" I said and smiled

"Good morning Jace" she got up out of my lap and stretched

"Did you sleep well?" I asked shifting slightly

"No, but I had this dream that a guy was chasing me with a gun" she said grimacing

"Really? Who was chasing you?" I could see worry and fear etched in her face. I hated to see her like that, she was my best friend.

She looked down. "You" she whispered

"Oh, Carmen" I pulled her into a hug and she started to cry. "Carmen, I would never hurt you" I whispered

She was shaking and hugged me back. She sniffed, "I know"

"It's ok" I said rubbing her back

"Thank you" she whispered into my shoulder

"Any time" I whispered back

She pulled away. Her eyes were red and puffy. She sighed and laid back down, putting her head in my lap. "So, tell me, what's your family like" she said looking up at me

I clenched my jaw.

"Oh, I'm sorry" she said sitting up. "I didn't mean to upset you, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to"

I gave her a weak smile and looked at the ground. She didn't need to know about my parents, it was too horrible.

"Well, umm" she said biting her lip

I smiled, she was so cute. I laughed a little and she snapped her head up and rubbing her neck

"What's so funny?"

"You are" I said laughing again

"What did I do?" she asked getting sad

Wow, she was really cute. "You look so cute when you bite your lip" I said chuckling

She bit her lip and blushed.

"Like that!" I said pointing and laughing

"Shut up!" she said punching my arm playfully

I laughed

*******CARMEN'S POV*******

I bit my lip and blushed.

"Like that!" he said pointing and laughing

"Shut up!" I said punching his arm

It had only been a week since I had opened up to Jace but it felt like we had been friends for years. I had refused to talk to him for a week because I still thought he was a creeper but one of the guys had come in and he pulled a knife on me. I got so scared that I ran into Jace's arms and started crying. I had stayed like that for a while, while Jace was trying to comfort me. I had realized that he wasn't that bad of a guy; he cared enough to comfort me when I was scared and after that, we had spent the next week getting to know each other. I didn't know much about his family or anything because he seemed to tense up every time I mentioned it but I didn't mind, Jace was a great guy and I trusted him.

He stood up and I stood up too. Lucky for me, I tripped over my foot and fell onto his chest, knocking him down. He landed on the ground with an oomph with me on top of him.

"Sorry!" I said and flipped my hair out of my face

"It's ok" he said laughing

I tried to get up and put my knee up but accidentally kneed him in the nuts

"Oh my gosh, why, why god!" he said rolling over

I quickly got off him. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" I said while laughing at the same time

He groaned and rolled over. Finally he staggered up and leaned against the wall

"I'm so sorry!" I said again, trying not to laugh

"It's ok" he grunted

I laughed and he gave me a half smile.

"I really am sorry" I said putting my hand on his shoulder

He looked at my hand for a second then back up at me face. I saw something flicker in his eyes for a brief second, then it was gone. He sighed, "It's ok" he said and walked over to the corner.

Did I do something wrong? I walked over to him and sat down next to him. "Are you ok Jace?" I asked

He looked away from me. "Nothing's wrong Carmen"

"Are you sure, you seem bothered by something"

"It's nothing, please don't worry about it" he said giving me a pleading look

"Well, ok" obviously something was bothering Jace but if he didn't want to talk about it, I wouldn't make him.

He smiled and I scooted next to him. He put his arm around my shoulders. I tensed up for a second before relaxing.

He sighed. "I'm sorry to put you through all of this Carmen" he said and looked at me

I shrugged his arm off and turned to face him. "It's not your fault Jace, I don't know why I'm here but I just hope it will be over soon, then we can both get out of here and we can go back to our families" I said smiling

He grimaced. "Yeah"

I raised an eyebrow but he didn't see. "Thank you" I whispered

He turned to look at me. "For what?"

"For being my friend, and for caring. Jace, if you had turned out to be some crazy mad person I was stuck here with, I don't know what I would've done. But your kind and you actually care, so thank you, for everything" I said smiling

He looked like he was going to lean forward but stopped. "Your welcome" he said and smiled. "Believe me, I've been through some tough things and I just don't want to see you suffer like I did, you don't deserve it" he said sighing

"Thank you" I said and kissed his cheek

His head snapped up and he smiled. He put his arm around my shoulder again and melted into his arms
