CHAPTER 13

The door burst open and we were still kissing each other intently. When Jace heard them, he just tightened his grip on me as if showing them I was his.

"Well, well, well what do we have here, two love birds cramped into the same cage" laughed a guy with a deep voice

I held on tighter to Jace, who was kissing me a little rougher, as if I was scared to let go of him, which I was

"Get off her you filthy dog" the guy said ripping Jace out of my arms

I gave out a little cry and Jace stood up blocking me from the guy

"Aww, look who's so overprotective of the little prison rat" cooed the guy

"Don't call her that" Jace said between his teeth

"Oh, and what are you going to do about it?" the guy said and slapped him

I winced and stood up beside Jace

"Get behind me" he ordered

"No"

"Well aren't you two cute" cooed the man

Jace slapped him in the face and the man took a step backwards.

"Big mistake" he said angrily and punched Jace in the jaw.

Jace staggered back a few steps and spat out blood.

"Stop!" I yelled standing in between the two. "Stop it!" I yelled again

"Carmen, get away from him" Jace said walking forward

I looked up the man who had an evil smirk on his face. He grabbed my arm and pulled me to him. "You want me to stop do you?" he said in my face. His breath smelled like whiskey and cigars

"Get off of her!" Jace yelled coming to me and grabbing my arm

"I don't think I can to that" he said pushing my back closer to him.

I gasped and tried to wiggle free but he had a firm grasp on me; my stomach was on fire and he was starting to hurt my arm

"Don't you touch her!" he yelled grabbing my arm protectively

"Oh, you mean like this?" he pushed me backwards and kicked me in the stomach right where my gash was, knocking the wind out of me

I flew backwards and landed on the floor with a thud. I groaned and rolled over to my side. Now my stomach was burning twice as much and my back was killing me. I tried to get up but just fell back on the ground

"Carmen!" shouted Jace trying to run over to me

The man grabbed his arm pulling him back. "I'm not quite done with you yet" he said slapping him again. "I'm very disappointed at the way you've been acting lately. You disobey your dad and now you're off kissing the prison rat!" the man spat in his face

Wait, did he say father? Was that horrible man Jaces father!? How was Jace stuck in here with me then?! No wonder he always got so tense whenever I asked about his parents or family. this guy was sick. Poor Jace

"I said don't call her that!" Jace screamed trying to get out of his dads grasp

"I'll call her what I want to" he said slapping him again.

I winced and closed my eyes. I didn't want to watch Jace get hurt; I cared about him too much. I would have gotten up to help him but the pain in my stomach was restricting me from doing much

I heard another smack and opened my eyes. Jace was a few steps away from his dad holding his head.

"This isn't over, I will be back" the man spat and walked out closing the door behind him

As soon as the door closed, Jace ran up to me.

"Carmen, are you ok" he said picking my face up

"Yeah" I croaked

He helped me sit up and pulled me into his lap. "Is your stomach ok?" he asked lifting up my shirt

I winced at the contact and he stopped.

"It hurts doesn't it?" he asked looking at me with concern

"Yeah but please don't worry about me Jace, I'll be ok" I said smiling. I didn't want him to be worried about my stomach, I would be fine

"Carmen, I can't help worrying about you" he said looking at me sadly

I sighed. "I'm sorry" I said quietly

"Carmen, you have no reason to be sorry. It's not your fault he treats people so cruel"

"Speaking of which, I heard him say he was your father" I said looking up at him

I saw pain flash in his eyes before he responded. "Yeah, he's my dad" he said looking away from me

"Jace look at me" I said putting my hand on his cheek. He turned to look at me and I could see pain in his eyes. "I'm sorry I brought it up, I didn't mean to hurt you"

"No, it's ok, you deserve to know"

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to"

"It's ok Carmen" he said kissing my lips lightly

"Well, what happened? If he's your dad then why are you in here stuck with me?"

"Well, first of all, I'm glad I'm here with you" he said smiling. "And second, it's a long story" he said sighing

"We have plenty of time"

"Yeah, I guess we do" he said sighing

"I'm all ears"
