CHAPTER 26
We explained everything to the officer, about who Jace was, who Jace's dad was, what he did, how I was taken, about Jace's mom and about Jace and I.
When we were done, the officer, who's name, I had learned, was officer Crubbs, looked shocked as hell
"Wait, so let me get this straight, you were taken to ruin someone else's life?" he said looking at me
"Yes" I said sadly
"And this boy here, Jason"
"Jace" Jace corrected him
"Sorry, Jace, was put into a cell because his dad abused him ever since his mom left?"
"Yes" said Jace
"And you two were stuck in the same room and ended up together?"
"Yes" we said at the same time
I looked at Jace and smiled. He gave me a smile in return
"Wow" was all the officer said. "You two have been through a lot"
I nodded and a tear fell down my face
"Don't cry Carmen, you have no reason to cry any more, your safe now" said the officer
I nodded and Jace squeezed my hand giving me a reassuring smile
"Ok Carmen, we need to get you back to your parents and Jason..."
"Jace" Jace said sternly
"Sorry, Jace, we need to find you a home obviously you can't go back to your dad or your mom" said the officer ruffling some papers in his hand
"Well why don't you let him meet my parents, maybe they would be willing to take him in" I sais looking at the officer
"Well, that may work but I'm afraid it's too late to take you home tonight, it's almost ten. But first thing tomorrow, we'll drive you and Jace here to your parents Carmen. For tonight, you can stay here at the station. We have some rooms in the back you can use and there will be someone on duty all night so you'll both be completely safe." He finished smiling at us
"Thank you so much officer" I said standing up
"You're very welcome" said the officer, also standing up. "Now, if you follow me, I'll escort you guys to your room" he said walking to the door
Jace stood up and we followed him out.
He showed us to a small room that had two small cots, a nightstand and a lamp.
I smiled. It would be nice to sleep in a bed again instead of on the floor.
"We'll come get you guys in the morning to escort you home. Goodnight" said the officer and smiled
"Goodnight" I said back and turned to Jace. He had the biggest smile I had ever seen on his face. I walked up to him and hugged him. He hugged me back
"We're free" he whispered into my shoulder
"We're free" I whispered back. "Nothing's going to hurt us ever again, we can be together and not have to worry about being separated, or beaten or about your dad or anything ever again"
I felt more tears coming down my face but not tears of pain, or sadness, but happy tears
He pulled away and looked at me lovingly. He had tears on his face too
"Carmen, don't cry" he said wiping the tears off my cheek with his thumb
"Their happy tears Jace" I said wiping the tears off his face
