I walked into the kitchen, trailing behind Noah who had started walking to dinner at the same time as me.
I had tied my hair back into a high ponytail because that was more comfortable and it wasn't like I had anyone to impress.
I had a gauze on my knee which had a red patch showing through the white fabric. A band aid was plastered on each of my palms which still stung from the antibiotics.
I sat down next to Liam as usual and began eating my food. It was kind of difficult because my hands ached when I wrapped them around the fork but I just suffered silently.
I also noticed that Jayden had a couple of marks on his neck. He probably got those when he and someone who sounded like a girl were making all of those horrible noises in his room earlier.
"So," Jessica said once everyone was at the table. "How was your trip?"
"It did actually hurt a bit to be honest," I muttered, although I was ignored.
Understandable.
"Lila fell over. It was the highlight of my day," Liam laughed, although I don't think it was meant in any sort of malicious way.
"Oh. That's a shame. Anything else?"
This man.
Like I don't care if you don't care but manners are free. A 'are you alright' from my own father would be enough for me.
It was basic parenting honestly.
"No one? Well I've got some news," my dad continued after a moment of pure silence. "I've booked all us boys tickets for a Yankees game!"
I wasn't sure what the 40 year old equivalent of a teacher's pet was, but it that's what my dad was.
The absolute prick didn't even like baseball.
I was happy he was trying to make himself comfortable with the boys, but honestly the way he was being so friendly with them but acting so distant with me pissed me off a bit.
"We don't like the Yankees," Liam spoke bluntly, as I had to fight back a laugh."Liam! Don't be so rude!" Jessica exclaimed.
"It's just the truth. None of us really like baseball either," Liam shrugged.
He shot a glance over at me and I gave him a massive grin.
I really appreciated it. I wasn't sure if this had anything whatsoever to do with me, but I still found it entertaining to watch.
"That works out great then I guess. My dad doesn't like it either," I piped up.
"Lila! Butt out of this you're not apart of this conversation," my dad hissed.
Knowing I was really pushing my luck here, I decided to stay silent, instead focusing on shoveling a forkful of pasta into my mouth.
"That's fine. We can do something another time. Who needs baseball anyway," my dad laughed awkwardly.
LILA
I was happily laid back on my bed, reading The Maze Runner for the sixth time, when I heard my door being pushed open.
A minute later I was met by a body flying ontop of me, landing with a yelp, sprawled out across my stomach.
I let out an exclamation of surprise, the lump on top of me not making any sort of attempt to move.
"Noah," I groaned, honestly dying under his weight. "Feel free to get off."
When I was met with no response, I decided instead to use straight up brute force to shove him off, taking in large breaths of relief.
"Can I help you?" I asked as my youngest stepbrother squirmed around on my bed until he found a comfortable position.
"Has your dad always been like this?"
"Like what?"
"An asshole. Like, I get he's trying, but he's being such a twat about it."
"I don't actually know what's wrong with him," I frowned, placing my book down on the bed next to me. "He's been a massive dick recently."
"Hormones?"
"He's 40."
"Is he on his period?"
"He's a he."
"Has he got a disease?"
"Actually yeah. He's been diagnosed with asshole syndrome. I've actually seen it quite obvious in Jayden."
"Now that I can believe."
I let out a laugh as the room was bathed in silence, both of us just staring up at the ceiling thoughtfully.
"Want to go do something?" Noah suddenly asked.
"Depends," I responded slowly.
"It involves food."
"Hell yeah."
LILA
I wasn't entire sure what was happening to be honest, just that I was about to get to pie Jayden in the face.
That was all I needed to know to be honest. It was enough for me.
"-Got it?" Noah whispered, causing me to snap out of whatever I was in.
"What?"
He let out a loud groan. "Jayden comes. You pie in face. Capiche?"
"Capiche," I nodded enthusiastically.
"Great," Noah whispered, moving over to next to Jayden's bed while pushing me further behind the door.
"JAYDEN!" Noah yelled so loudly I swear he shattered my ear. "WHY IS THERE A POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST ON YOUR BED?"
"WHAT THE FUCK?" Jayden's disbelieving voice yelled back.
Only moments later, we were met by footsteps thundering up the stairs, probably being taken two at a time.
Well that definitely caught his attention.
You could basically feel the pure panic in Jayden's steps as he reached the top of the landing.
I prepared myself, hearing him rushing closer and closer to his bedroom.
Within seconds, he was sprinting straight through the door, barely giving me any time to pie him.
Of course, I was more than prepared for this, and wasn't about to lose this opportunity so as his body dived into the room, my hand was already soaring towards his face, the pie splattering all over his head.
Jayden let out a loud yell, stumbling from pure shock as cream found its way into his hair and smeared absolutely everywhere, even dripping onto his top.
My stepbrother reached his fists up to rub the cream away from his eyes, his expression one of pure disbelief as his shock turned into anger.
"You little shits."
