Today was the day of Owen and I's second date. He had texted me yesterday morning to see if I wanted to go to the cinema with him after school, and I happily agreed.
"Hey, Devvy," I said cheerfully over the phone. My brothers had forced me to save Devon's contact on my phone in case of emergencies. And trust me. This was an emergency.
"What do you want, midget," he groaned in response.
"I need a favor," I sighed. Although I was happy that I actually had a way to get to this date, I was still reluctant asking for Devon's help. What if he told my brothers? I didn't really have any choice, though. I lived quite far away from the cinema so I had to be driven there, but my friends and I weren't old enough to have a licence. That only left Devon because he was really the only person who could drive that I was comfortable with who wasn't my family.
"What now?" Devon sighed.
"I need you to drive me somewhere," I said hesitantly, unsure of his response. Would he say no? Probably. I mean, this was Devon we were talking about. But he was my only chance at getting to this date, so it was worth a shot.
There was a pause on the other end of the phone before Devon replied. "And what will I get in return?"
"Chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate."
LILA
"Bye, midget!" Devon called after me as I climbed out of his car and slammed the door shut behind me. That car ride was the worst mistake of my life.
He was playing rap music which I didn't really mind, until he rolled down the window and began screaming the lyrics at the top of his lungs. It sucked.
I was extremely happy to have been able to finally get out of that torture chamber and I breathed in a sigh of relief as finally my ears stopped ringing. I would have said something to Devon about it, but I couldn't afford to take any risks and for him to take me home. I was way too excited for this date.
I walked across the car park to where I was supposed to meet Owen just outside of the building, and saw him stood there looking suitably handsome. He wore a simple navy polo shirt and black jeans as well as smart Adidas sneakers. His dark hair was gelled into a nice quiff and I could see that he had a hoodie slung over his left arm.
A small smile broke across my face at the sight of him without even realising. Owen Hale really was beginning to have an affect on me.
I quickly walked passed the last row of cars with the quiet sound of people talking filling the air from the shopping street across from the cinema.
Owen seemed to notice me nearing him when I was only a couple of metres away, and a genuine grin broke across his face at seeing me. He immediately smoothed down the back of his hair and straightened slightly.
"Hi, Stuart," Owen smiled as soon as I reached him.
"Hey, Kevin," I said in response, mirroring his happy expression.
He seemed to relax slightly and I was surprised by the amount of nerves he appeared to have been feeling. I'd never seen him act like this around anyone else. Did I really impact him that much?
"You ready to go in?" he asked.
I was excited to watch this movie despite not knowing what we were going to be seeing, so I was obviously more than ready to watch it. I could also tell that Owen was still quite nervous so, being the nice person I was, I decided to tease him slightly.
"Not really," I said, feigning hesitance. "I'm kind of unsure whether I actually want to continue this date with you or not."
I noticed Owen's breath visibly hitch at this and his eyes widen. He seemed to believe my playful lie and anxiety was practically written across his face. Damn. Was I really that good of an actress?
