"We're going to the beach!" Logan yelled.
And from there my day got interesting.
LILA
I pulled off my shorts and my top, leaving me in my swimsuit. I glanced over at my stepbrothers and their cousins and saw that they were now only in their swimming trunks.
Joe was lying on his back while Zac was walking down to the water. Carter and Ethan were talking to Logan and my other stepbrothers were laying out the towels and taking out the soccer ball, tennis balls, beach ball and Frisbee.
"Can you put some sun cream on my back, Li," Joe called.
I rolled my eyes at him but shuffled across the sand on my bottom anyway and grabbed the bottle, sitting down on my knees next to him. Quickly squirting some out onto my hand, I slapped the cream down onto my cousins back and stood up, not bothering to rub it in.
"Hey!" Joe exclaimed in annoyance.
He turned his head to the side and his eyes met mine, narrowed into slits. I gave him an innocent smile, before unexpectedly leaping to my feet and sprinting towards the ocean, kicking up sand as I did.
My cousin's footsteps could be heard from behind me and I pushed my body harder. We had set up our towels not far from the water so I didn't exactly have far to go to get to the sea.
Even so, sprinting as fast as I could for almost a minute on wet sand that my feet slapped against made my lungs burn. I was definitely not in good shape.
The sand became harder and darker as I got closer to the water's edge, almost hurting my feet because of how harshly they were hitting the ground.
Only a few seconds later, I began to kick up water, barely reaching above the sole of my feet. It got deeper as I ran further in.
Soon I was practically wading through the sea as small waves pushed me slightly as I walked. It was a nice day and the water was clear, so I could easily see the sand and shells at the bottom.
I twisted around to see where Joe was and pushed myself to go faster as I saw he was only about an arm length away.
I was so going to die.
"Joe!" I screamed as there was a large splash right behind me, and then two hands grabbed my waist.
My cousin let out a chuckle and wrapped his arms tighter around my torso so I was pressed against his chest.
"What are you-" I began. Sadly, I was cut off when something grabbed my bare feet and pulled them out from under me. I didn't even notice Zac swimming up to me underwater.
I let out a small scream as Joe suddenly let go of me and I fell backwards into the water, only just managing to keep my head above the water.
"Hey!" I exclaimed angrily, managing to find my footing on the sand and push myself upwards so that the water went up to my elbows again.
The two boys were grinning at me with obvious amusement which caused my annoyed frown to deepen. I rolled my eyes at their immaturity and began to wade away from them.
Well... I attempted to at least. Sadly, before I could go very far, I felt Zac grab my waist from behind and pull me towards him. He then twisted me around so that I was facing his side and easily lifted me up onto his hip.
Instinctively, I wrapped my legs around his torso as to not fall backwards into the water. Zac took this opportunity to tighten his hold around my back with one strong arm, and with the other he pulled one of my legs to his chest to keep me supported.
