I laid awake in my bed. It was 10AM. I would usually be asleep by now.

I don't usually go out in the morning, only ever waiting until it was lights out. I'd sleep in the morning to reserve my energy for my nightly life.

I stood up, grabbing my phone from behind my bed post. Jackson bought it for me a while ago so I could contact everyone. Namjoon hyung encrypted it so no one could hack into it.

Seeing the date on the lock screen, I could tell immediately why I was so restless today. The screen read October 13.

I sighed, flopping backwards onto my bed. To think today's my seventeenth birthday. Rolling onto my side, I put my phone back into its original spot behind my bed post.

I can't believe it's been a whole year already...

I didn't know how long I laid there. By the time I got up, the clock read 3PM. I faintly heard Jihyun come home earlier, but I haven't seen him yet.

It kinda hurt to think that Jihyun forgot about my birthday.. He's been trying to be there for me, especially after he caught me with claw marks on my body.

I just hoped.. that he'd remember.

...

When I heard the front door open and close, I knew Jihyun had left somewhere, considering both of my parents were at work.

I laid there for another three and a half hours, using a small dosage of sleeping pills to help me.

The pills lasted for an hour and a half, leaving me to spend the rest of my time awake. Unfortunately, because of the silence, it gave me more time to think.

In other words, they were back. The voices..

Without any distractions to keep them at bay, the voices just kept whispering things to me. It was worse now than ever before.

I guessed that it was because of what day it was today.

It hurt to hear them, but it hurt even more when they made sense. "They don't care" They never really did. "My presentation was just a chance for them to abandon me"

And they took it.

I stood up feeling dull and ran out of the house, the door bouncing off the wall.

My chest hurts and my legs burn from the speed it's running at. I could feel my eyes stinging with tears. I didn't like it.

I didn't want to feel anymore. I didn't care about what might happen when I finally stopped at an empty river. It was familiar to me.

Jihyun and I would always come here after school. It was always relaxing to come here, but all I feel now is the urge to do something.

I whipped my head behind me when I heard the sound of quick footsteps, only to see a boy my age fall to the ground.

The boy was panting and even though it was dark, I could see bruises all over him.

It was obvious that he was running from someone. I made my way to him only to hear voices yelling out. There were at least two of them.

I quickly rushed towards the boy and sprayed him with a scent blocker. They were still in their testing phase, but they'd have to do for now. The boy coughed as it flooded his nose.

"Be quiet or they'll find you." I helped the boy to stand and hid him in a bush on the other side. Since it was dark now, they shouldn't be able to see him so easily.

"Stay here." I sprayed the area so they wouldn't be able to follow the scent trail to him.

Just as I tossed the spray bottle by the wall, a group of three people with glowing red eyes ran into view.

Two of them had bruises on their face while the last one stood weirdly.

"Hey! You seen a Beta around here?" They were stalking towards me threateningly, but I stood my ground. "No. I just got here."

They growled at my response while circling me, blocking my exit.

One of them sniffed the air. "You're lying. His scent stops here. You must've done something." As they glared at me with a predatory gaze, I could feel my body automatically responding to the threat.
