"Dudeee, your phone has been ringing for fifteen minutes straight!"
"Luke I swear to god. Answer the damn phone!"
My hand swept across the table to my left, where I usually leave my phone.
Once it was in my grasp I clicked right where the 'end call' icon would be.
"He's so cold, he didn't even answer it."
So much for going back to sleep.
"I'm trying to sleep here."
"You've been sleeping for hours."
I figured that was Mac deadpanning.
"Yo Luke, we're gonna invite some girls over and get Gregg to make us pizza."
The statement was technically supposed to be a question since I was left in charge but I knew better than to argue with Rex about authority.
One by one I heard them filed out the bunker. Rex was the front line defender and the others were his support.
I wouldn't doubt that one of the guys purposefully called my phone to get me to wake up.
There was no going back to sleep now.
The chances that they'd invite girls from school over were extremely high.
I couldn't face them.
I allowed their classmate and friend to be kidnapped.
I couldn't leave the bunkers. I could surely lay low until they left.
The bunkers took up two floors.
The lowest floor was the widest as it consists of both the basement and torture chambers.
The highest was where the boss would stay.
The one directly below that one was Kim's floor and the one below that was the kitchen, dining and living rooms.
There was an entire floor between Amber and I. Which meant that there was no way I could try to see her.
Roberto belonged to the second floor of bunkers. He clearly had easier access to her than me. I couldn't protect her from this much distance.
A random burst of loud music interrupted my pitiful thoughts.
There was no way the party could possibly be in full swing so soon. It could only be that way if... if the party had already started while I was asleep. Damn that Rex.
He set the board and I was the last pawn to move. If he screwed up I would be held responsible. Damn him to hell.
I had no choice but to go upstairs.
They were like kids at the park, without adult supervision... they can prove to be rather disastrous.
After letting out a growl of frustration, I rolled onto the floor and walked parallel to my bed. There stood my wardrobe, identical to the many others that lines the wall.
Elite members occupied the 1st bunker.
These members had their own wardrobes and bathroom parallel to their bed.
Regular members occupied the 2nd bunker.
It's slightly identical to the 1st bunker except it lacks individual bathrooms.
Bathrooms of the 2nd bunker are each shared by two members.
Other than that, both bunkers consist of the same amount of beds and distribution or rather the lack of distribution of space.
The beds are placed almost side by side.
Imagine waking up next to a man.
Scary right?
Most elite members sleep out, but regulars were kind of like grounded children.
Their job is to stay at the base and do whatever odds and ends they are capable of handling.
Roberto was a regular.
Just thinking of him made my blood boil.
Why was he chosen to be Ambers guardian? Why him? He's a nobody.
Similar thoughts took up residence in my mind as I sluggishly took a shower and got dressed for what seemed to be certain doom.•~••~•~•~•*change in POV*•~•~•~••~•
"Where is she?!"
"Bro I told you... nobody saw her after she went to look for Luke..."
I sighed and tried to ask a simpler question.
"So where is Luke then?"
They looked around at each other, then bent their heads in defeat.
"Useless...
You're all useless!"
I can't believe these guys.
One simple task they had.
One simple task.
Keep an eye on Amber.
Watch over a teenage girl.
Is that so hard to do?
I guess so since they failed to do such a simple task.
The worst thing to have is useless subordinates.
But before I could continue my mental rant any further, I was interuptted by a hand on my shoulder.
"We'll find her bro,"
The speaker was Brad, my younger brother and the owner of the out stretched hand was Kent.
I sympathized with him.
I lost an asset but he lost a sister.
She meant more to him than she meant to me. But he should've thought about the consequences of his actions beforehand.
He should've thought about how dangerous all of this would've been for her.
But he was naive, and my father took complete advantage of that fact.
"You have no choice. She will be initiated into this gang. That was the deal."
I was looking at Kent dead in the eyes now.
I couldn't be soft on him.
He was a crucial member to this gang and
as the heir, I must continue to be stern and fearless in times of doubt.
My words were final, as always.
Both filed out and up to the gym room.
Our base consist of four underground floors and one surface floor.
The gym was the cover room.
It was where we supposedly lived as it consisted of all the amenities like the bathroom and kitchen.
The floor below the gym was our actual base floor.
It was where we planned heists and delegated roles.
It was also where I isolated myself when things don't, let's say ideal.
The other floors served more... practical purposes.
This gang was mines.
My father could barely stand on his own two fet, partly because of his age and partly because of the the bullet wounds he was so kindly given in his left leg by his brother of sorts.
Just thinking about that man added more fuel to my enraged state. How could he even consider that man his brother.
He shot him in the leg!
It was unbelievable.
My father was always forgiving under the wrong circumstances and this instance is more than enough proof.
That trait of his was not hereditary.
I barely forgive the shower for pouring out cold water on delay.
That said, it's easy to see why Amber's disappearance had such an impact on me.
Amber is my property.
No one takes what is mine.
No one.
Her initation was supposed to take place before my birthday. That way she would have time to warm up to me.
But as it stands, she's missing and judging by what's been left, she didn't struggle one bit.
If she was abducted by someone she didn't know, there would've surely been witnesses. Amber isn't mute.
But just that fact is why she's being put on the sidelines. There's no proof that Vipers took Amber.
However there's sufficient proof that Vipers took Maggie. So the direct order is to perform an extraction for Maggie.
Which meant that I would have to find Amber on my own as well as plan and executive an extraction in enemy territory.
I had no time to waste.
So I'd best start now.
