The scenery drastically changed.
The greenlands morphed to dark undertones of gray, the sky covered in mighty rain clouds.
A great pour was coming.
The car wasn't moving.
Drew was smiling at me through the front windshield.
There was a plastic bag on the hood.
The car smelt heavenly.
I sent him a little sleepy wave before wiping away the yawn water from my eyes.
I didn't see if he waved back, I didn't see him move either.
So when he opened the back seat door, I was caught off guard.
Like literally caught.
I went tumbling out the door.
If Drew wasn't there, I would've hit my head real hard.
"Wow there buddy!"
He held me there in that awkward position.
His hands under my behind,
My upper body pressed against his lower half,
My head stuck looking up at his-
It was a very awkward moment.
What made it worse was that my legs were still in the car.
They were jammed under the passenger seat.
Even if I could, I wouldn't be barely to pull them out on my own.
And Drew couldn't let go of my butt to help me cause then I'd surely fall.
So we just stood there.
Well he stood, I... hanged? Sat? Levitate?
I don't know.
Neither of us spoke.
But an onlooker could tell that we were both deep in thought.
If he tried to pull me out, my foot would bend.
If he tried to put me back into the car, my legs would need to be reangled.
In conclusion, we could not do this on our own.
"Bro why are you just standing the-
oh hey Amber! Feeling any better?"
What. The. Heck.
"Um considering that I'm on my way to falling down, I think not!"
Maybe my tone was a bit rude but deadpans weren't kind in any way.
He faceplamed.
"Ahhh. I get you! Lemme help you out,"
He strutted over with a pep in his step.
He was so cheerful, but why?
Was he that happy to see his brother?
Is this what it felt like from the big brothers perspective?
Was this what I looked like to Kent?
His eyebrows knitted together.
"How did this even happen?"
Drew sighed.
"Just open the door to the other side and free her legs, I'll pull her up on this side."
Brad fumbled out of my line of sight and I was back to staring at Drew.
I heard a door open and then I felt his hands on my feet.
The movement ceased.
Another door opened.
The passenger chair lounged forward.
Shortly after I felt his hands again.
He gently moved them from under and turned them so Drew could pull me out.
"Alright bro, lift her,"
I felt one of Drew's hands move lower til it was under my knees.
In a swift movement, he lifted me upward and hoisted me into a bridal style hold.
I took that opportunity to bring circulation back to my neck.
I rotated it bit.
It did a little crack.
Drew stiffened up.
"Are you okay????"
"Yeah, just cracked my neck.."
His body untensed.
Brad notably averted his eyes.
He walked ahead towards none other than the gym.
The gym where I stayed when I didn't want to forgive Luke.
My stomach churned.
I could've saved his life.
Fingers passed through my hair, somehow managing to defuse my stress.
He led me through the open gate and into the gym.
The major difference was that the gym was, well gutted.
Drew seemed just was surprised as me by his audible gasp.
"Brad. What happened here?"
Brad had a broad smile on his face.
"We're going home,"
Going home?
"What do you mean?"
"Father called a while ago, he told us to clear out the top floor and prepare to leave."
Was that why the phone was ringing when we were- Uh...
"Why didn't you call me?"
He did though.
"I did."
Drew drew a deep breath.
"Well why didn't you TELL me?"
"He wanted it to be a surprise,"
"Wha-"
"Surprise!"
Drew growled.
Literally.
"When is the trip?"
"At 10."
"Tonight?"
Brad nodded.
It was semi dark outside.
The sun was setting.
That meant that it was roughly 6pm.
Drew, Brad and most likely the other guys were leaving here in four hours.
To go to 'home'.
Home sounded like far away.
He told me that he wasn't from here.
His home was in the north.
But there was no way they could reach by the port in four hours.
Clear traffic and green lights couldn't even make that possible.
Drew was leaving.
Would I ever see him again?
He wasn't to blame.
He didn't know better.
But I felt was if he was the source of all my problems.
A part of me was denying that.
It played back the past few hours.
All he had done for me.
How could I hate him?
Even if I'd never see him again.
I would just to add another lost love to my list.
My thoughts were shaken up.
Actually my whole being was shaken up.
"Anybody awake in there?"
Drew shook me side to side.
I hadn't even realized that my eyes were closed until I opened them.
"I know you have questions, but let me get you to the room first okay?"
I nodded.
I appreciated the fact that he didn't pretend that I was dumb.
The fact that he knew exactly what I wanted.
He walked over to the centered wrestling ring.
Then he made a left.
The last time I was here, the bathroom was the door to the right.
Which would mean that there was also a hidden door in the left corner.
He glided around it easily and turned the doorknob.
Slowly, Drew took step by step down the spiral twisty staircase, until it led into a well lit room.
It appeared to be an office, but far larger.
There was a huge tv, showing what seemed to be surveillance images, numerous chairs around a large, circular, glass topped table, a centered chair, just a bit bigger than the others and tall cabinets lining all the walls.
The room was full with furniture, the walls painted a dull grey, but lacked any living person.
He walked down a slim hallway, passing numerous white doors.
The doors had initials inscribed in the centre but he brushed past so quickly that I only got to read one.
The one he stood in front of.
'DV'
The letters were bolder than the others.
And when he opened the door I imagined that this room was far larger than the others.
The decor was identical to that of the room he had at the garage with a few additions.
There were posters on most of the upper walls.
Short cabinets lined the walls that cushioned the door.
On those cabinets had many many many picture frames.
The bed was way bigger.
There was still no light coming through the window.
The bookcase held far more books.
There was a door where the closet had been.
Two doors were in the same place as before.
While I looked around, he just sat next to be and looked up at the ceiling, causing me to look up too.
It was the most beautiful thing I'd never seen.
The entire galaxy was lit up in full bloom.
Planets, constellations, black holes, milky way, space rocks,
everything was stuck mid movement.
As if time itself was frozen.
And as I looked across into his hazel eyes, and saw him already looking at me,
I wished it'd stayed frozen
Forever.
