"Psst! Hey you!"
I've been trying to wake this girl up ever since Roberto left.
But all I seem to get is silence as a response.
If she was indeed the missing Maggie that those guys from the library was talking about then she was here for quite some time.
It hadn't appeared that Roberto was also the guardian of her.
She laid limp against the wall, just as I saw her before.
She had long black hair, sprinkled with dry blood and dirt from possibly being dragged in here.
She wore what looked to be the classic work attire of a librarian's assistant, with an accompanying name badge that I couldn't possibly read from the distance between us.
Her clothes was ripped here and there and her skin showed signs of distress and torture.
The only difference with her from when I saw her earlier was the stream of fresh blood running down her face.
Weirdly enough I didn't hear her be beaten.
There were no fresh blood splatters on the floor or walls.
That would mean that she wasn't tortured in here.
So I looked to the door.
Surely enough there was fresh blood on the body of the door as well as on the floor directly in front it.
They tortured her in another room and then dragged her back in here.
However the cleaner was a bit new to this.
That led me to believe that Roberto could actually be both our guardian, but why would his orders be different?
When I asked him what was a guardian, he simply said he would watch over not me but us. He said he would bring me food, clean me up and take care of me until I am needed.
I didn't analyse his words properly at the time but I understand now.
He was to watch over Maggie, as if she's already served her purpose.
And he was to take care of me until I served mine.
Before I could ponder on what would happen to be after my purpose was served, I heard the rattling of keys.
He was back.
"I got chef to make you a sandwich but that greedy oaf Rebel ate it..."
Rebel? That guy from the bathroom incident at that party? He was here?
What was he doing here?
Where was here exactly?
Rex and Rebel work for Kim, which indirectly means their apart of her father's gang.
So could I be in their base? That would explain the Maggie chain up to the left of me.
What reason would they have to abduct me?
Did Rex find out that I was the eavesdropper from the library?
Did Rebel bring me here to finish what he started?
Did Kim have brought here to keep me away from Luke?
Did they want information?
Was I to be forced to watch Kim and Luke get married, since apparently their were engaged all this time?
There were many possibilities. But Roberto interjected before I could muse over them all.
"Sorry I took so long, the guys wanted me to run an errand...Buttttt I got you pizza!"
He tried to sound excited at the end, but it came out as a plead for forgiveness.
I wanted to tell him that was okay, but what I wanted more was answers.
"Who is she?"
He looked a bit taken back.
"Another captive..."
I rose my voice.
"Who is she???"
"Amber its better if you don't know..."
"Why is she bloody?"
"Amber I told you... it's bett-"
"Dont you dare say that again because god knows the only thing that would be better for me is for me to be unchained, removed from this basement and allowed to be free, but y'all abducted me. So answer my questions abductor."
He stumbled back a feet steps at my bluntness.
"Her name is Maggie, she's supposed to be providing crucial information but she's been rather uncooperative... so the guys as been using her as a means of distasteful entertainment."
His voice sunk.
I took it all in.
"Shes been uncooperative???"
I was all but yelling now. My voice was as shaky as ever but held firmness in its wits.
"Amber plea-"
"Dont please me! I'm sure she begged you to help her, to at least give her some food or even water. She is starving! Or course she would be uncooperative! She's basically dead... you are a terrible person Roberto."
Once I was finished I broke eye contact.
Ly was now awake, softy rubbing on my feet as if to calm me down. I couldn't pat her though, my chains still held me semi hoisted onto the wall.
Roberto seemed to notice my failt attempt because the silence was interrupted by the rattling of keys.
He was approaching me but that only angered me more.
"Don't you dare take another step. I'm sure Maggie pleaded with you to loosen her shackles. But you didn't. You left her chained to the wall, starving."
"Come on Amber..."
"I'm guessing it won't be long until I'm forced to serve my 'purpose' and then the hospitality would surely be out the window,"
He stopped walking towards me.
"Deny it."
He was silent.
"Deny it Roberto."
He sighed.
"Amber please...I'm sorry... if you want her unchained then fine. But I answer to a higher power. I can only do what is in my range."
So be it.
"Report my resquests to 'the higher power' then. No more roughing her up. I want her to be fed every time I'm fed. The same goes with baths."
"I'll mention it. But for now I suppose I can exhaust my authority."
His response came as he walked across to her after handing me the plate of pizza.
"Fine."
I basically swapped places with her in terms of treatment but it was worth it, she didn't deserve any of what they did to her.
The only response I was given after that was the sound of shackles dropping to the floor.
Maggie's body collapsed into Roberto's arms. He brought over to my side of the room and lent her up against the wall.
Then he proceeded to loosing my shackles and shackling back Maggie's hands and legs so that both of us could sit on the floor.
Ly quickly licked my hands and what little of my face she could reach as I tried to bend.
"Amber... neither of you have a change of clothes..."
Shucks.
"I can go out and get you guys some..."
Maggie wasn't that much bigger than me in size. I doubt my abductors would praise Roberto's attempt to purchase
"My house key is supposed to be in my bag, you can get clothes for both of us there."
He nodded then furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"But I don't know where your house is..."
"Its on 2nd avenue, to the right of Luke's house on the left side of the road."
He nodded again, but slower this time, drinking in all the information.
He could only come back with the clothes if he spoke to Luke or any of his school friends like Codey or Kareem.
That would confirm my gut feeling that Luke and his friends partially made up 'the guys' that sent Roberto on the errand.
Maggie was still asleep so I decided to eat the slice of pizza he brought me.
But god knows it couldn't fill me, so he went back up to get me some more.
Perhaps we would have a picnic, we might even go a little heart to heart, from abductee to abductor.
