I thought I misheard.
"Amber is not here. We were set up."
So when he repeated himself, I was just as shocked.
We were set up.
This was all a waste of time.
Anger weld up inside of me.
So much so that the stall wall had a fist size hole in it within a few seconds.
Blame goes straight to the cheap material.
Jason wasn't even fazed by my outburst.
He simply looked the other way.
"How did you find out?"
He made direct eye contact before he spoke.
"I was sent up on the VIP suite. Once I was there I performed a fully sweep of the area.
But then Mrs Rangi, a middle aged woman, asked me to give her a massage. Apparently she's the most important person on the entire boat. She was super drunk so getting info out of her was easy. I learnt that her husband is a very influential member of the Vipers drug cartel and that her hobby was breeding rare breeds of dogs. She was taking the boat back to the south pole after one of her pups was stolen."
Leave it to Jason to acquire important information.
"This is a message from your captain: five minutes til departure. Please be seated and secure all food and beverages."
We had five minutes.
Five minutes to find Kent.
Five minutes to find Kent and get out.
We needed to get Kent now.
"Where's Kent?"
"I haven't seen him..."
I changed my shirt to the one that I was wearing when the cocktail spill occurred.
That should create a plausible explanation as to why we were leaving the boat before it had set sail.
Or so I could hope.
Jason changed back into his plain clothes and threw the uniform over the stall wall a that it landed on the still-unconscious waiter.
We cautiously yet hastily made our way down to the first commoners floor.
Then to the other.
Then to the other.
Try commoners floors were packed like the vehicles floor.
The only difference was the cafeteria on the second floor.
I barely spared it a glance.
I was occupied looking out for Kent.
So occupied that I hadn't even seen the person that was walking towards me until we had collided.
"Second time's the charm I hope,"
She took a step back and smiled brightly, as if she had known me for years.
I was brought back to our last encounter a few minutes ago.
Where did she know me from?
How did she know my parents?
There was answered I wanted to know.
But at that time, it wasn't right to ask.
So I sent her a curt nod while biting my tongue, and made my way down to the cargo floor.
The cargo boys were still moving wooden boxes but Kent was no where in sight.
I pulled out my cell, knowing fully well that the transmitter on the vessel blocked all forms of communications, but I had no other option.
Maybe if he was near the deck he might've gotten my message.
So I sent one.
Short and simple.
We walked back up to the commoners floor and then back again.
Still no sign of Kent.
As a last resort, I approached one of the cargo boys.
"Do you know where the new worker is?"
He looked around and then back at me.
"Me no know. No hablo el ingles. Lo sliento,"
He bowed his head and went back to moving the boxes.
Getting workers that didn't speak the native dialect was smart.
But not so smart when most natives of the north pole were multilingual.
I saw the guy whisper to another while I was about to walk down to the vehicles floor.
"Oi! Hold! Nuevo trabajador, el se fue-"
Where did he go?
"Gracias"
Jason walked behind me as we filtered through the mass of vehicles.
If Kent left, he would've gone to the parking lot.
He had to be waiting for us.
I broke into a sprint as we zoomed past the guard, who was reading some kind of manga.
Once we were in the parking lot, I heard the captain over the speakers announce the ten seconds count down for departure.
By the time we got to the car, the vessel has set sail.
But Kent wasn't in or near the car.
As we watched it sail south, a silhouette appeared by the window of the vehicle floor.
Kent sent us a final sad smile as he had set out on his own.
We left Kent behind.

I didn't recognise them when I had the first glance.
And even when my mind morphed nightmares from that glance I still didn't draw a reference.
But seeing them standing in front of me in that moment, I didn't feel the slightest ounce of happiness.
You would think that after all I've been through, a familiar face would cheer me up.
Wrong.
It the effect was the opposite when I pinned that face to the person that shot Luke,  or the one that abducted me, or even the one that threw his dead body into the cove.
Amongst the familiar faces was one unfamiliar face.
The face of the one that took me out the basement.
I was now fully awake.
Still tied to a chair.
The only difference was that there was bandages on my wounds.
Which was literally everything.
We were one month away from Halloween but I already looked like a mummy.
Three guys were standing in a row.
None of them clearly knew what to say.
So I got the ball rolling.
"Who are you?"
"Amber don't you know who-"
The guy to the right responded.
"Im not talking to you."
I sent Tom a death glare before reverting my attention back to the guy in the middle.
"My name is Br-"
"Why did you abduct me?"
He was taken back by me cutting him off.
He swallowed before he spoke again.
"We didn't abdu-"
"You took me against my will..."
He ran his hair through his hair and sighed.
"Why did you abduct me?"
I pressed on.
"Why did you-"
"DID YOU LIKE IT THERE? HUH?? WE LITERALLY FREED YOU. GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK!"
Then he spoke in a softer tone.
"I have other things to worry about...my brother is gone and I- I don't have time for your bitchy attitude."
He walked behind a car and I heard a door slam.
Tom dragged a chair and placed it in front of mine.
"Sorry about Brad...he's antsy because Drew left him in charge of this mission and he can't get onto him."
Wait.
Wait...
"What does Drew have to do with this?"
"What do you guys have to do with this?"
"Why did you guys 'save' me?"
"How?"
"Where's Kent?"
Tom covered his face with his hands.
"Brad is Drews younger brother. Drew took Jason and Kent to go rescue you but we found you at the base..."
So they weren't coming for me?
Kent and the others went to rescue me?
"Where did they go?"
"Why aren't they back?"
He sighed.
"I can't te-"
He was interrupted by the roughly opening and closing of a door.
Brad ran into the room.
"Kent has been separated from the others."
