"Pleaseeee! Just give me one day!"
"No. Call them and cancel the plans."
"Gina... at least let him cancel in person..."
"James no. Luke continues to disobey us and refuses to meet our deadlines or even go to school. I'd rather not hear his name calling in any more trouble."
"But please... I'll go over now and be back by-"
"NO. James will drop you to school now and you'll talk to your little friends then."
She was so stern. The only way to get my own way was through her counterpart.
I give him the puppy dog eyes.
I begged him mentally.
I mouthed my request.
He sighed.
"Gina...can you give him fifteen minutes at this friend's place before I drop him to school?"
She sighed.
"Five."
"Thank you my empress, I'll bring tacos on my way back."
"With?"
"An iced latte?"
"Be safe!"
With that James scurried me to his car.
"You owe me big time bud. So where to?"
"5th avenue..."
"Seatbelts."
Such a dad.
I needed to get back to the base but I couldn't take James there.
So I'd let him drop me by Zac and then hitch a ride with Zac to the base.
The only problem was getting him to drop me off...
Gina was stern as hell.
But if I didn't turn up, Kim would use it as fuel against me and they themselves might be the price I'd have to pay.
Even if it neat breaking their trust, I needed to get to the base.
"Alright, 5 minutes starting...now!"
I opened the car door and walked up to the porch. I already texted Zac the plan I came up with on the way here.
He unlocked his door and I passed straight through his house and out the back door.
Then I walked accross the broad lawn and opened the gate that led to another person's back yard. Fortunately, the owner was a business broker that was currently away doing business.
Mark was parked up round the front.
Once I was in the car, I texted James saying I got a drop to school, but not to tell Gina that.
To avoid his calls and text messages, I turned my phone off.
The drive was quiet, unlike the base.
Apparently, most of the guys skipped school, again. Only about six guys were missing, probably still sleeping.
Once I entered, I was bombarded with 'congrats' among many other things.
But before I could respond to any, Rebel hailed me out and signaled for me to follow him near the kitchen counter.
And that's exactly what I did.
"Congratulations Luke,"
"For what?"
Why was everyone congratulating me?
"Your official engagement to Kim,"
My what?
"I never expected you to leave that pretty little thing alone but then again I guess she was just a fling."
Was he talking about Amber?
"I'm glad you got to clear your chest about her, you showed us that she isn't angelic as she seems,"
I cleared my chest?
"But damn, I wish I could get a piece of that blonde, you made your night with her sound heavenly,"
I talked about that night? But why?
None of this made any sense.
All of this could be lies.
The only person that didn't drink was Kim.
However, information from her could be just as faulty.
But that was I risk I had no choice but to take.
I left Rebel right there and made my way up the stairs and into Kim's floor room.
"I thought I heard you come in, what took you so long?"
"Had to talk to my parents..."
"Aww, poor Luke,"
"Kim what happened last night?"
"You mean before or after we made love?"
"Answer my question."
"The guys threw us a party to commemorative our official engagement,"
"Official engagement?"
"Look at the ring on your finger sweetie, nothing much happened after that. You guys were just having a drunkened heart to heart."
Which meant that... what Rebel said could be true. The only other person to ask was Roberto. He'd be honest. And if it did happen, he would also relay the message to Amber...
I sprinted out of the room and right down to the 2nd bunker floor.
Luckily for me, Roberto was laying on his bed.
"Hey Roberto!"
He looked up and kind of smiled.
Well that was a change.
"Whats up Luke?"
"Were you upstairs during the party? Did I say anything about Amber?"
He looked a bit confused.
"I wasn't upstairs throughout the party...but you did mention that you didn't have feelings for Amber anymore..."
I said that?
That was far worse than any of the other things. Especially if Amber heard it, which she most definitely did.
I needed to see her. To fix this.
But what right did I have?
I caused her all the pain she must be enduring.
I will be the cause of her death...
I had no right.
"Oh and by the way, congratulations man,"
He reached out and patted me on the back.
"Thanks Roberto..."
I turned to walk back up the stairs.
"Shes in good hands."
I wanted to turn back around.
I wanted to shout 'the only hands I want her it be in is mines!', but I no longer had the right.
Disgruntled, I trotted up the stairs, past the guys and back up to Kim's floor.
She was laying on the bed in nearly nothing.
"Welcome back sugar plum,"
"Kim."
Her back was facing me.
"Yes hunny?"
"Kim!"
She spun around.
"What do you want?"
I almost heard her growl.
"Permission to see Amb-"
"No."
"Please..."
"No."
"I'm begging you..."
"Then get on your knees and act like it."
I kneed down.
"Please Kim."
"Let me think....No."
I stood up.
"Whats so important about her?
Answer me Luke.
What does she have that I dont?"
"What can she give you that I can't?"
"I can give you far more than she ever could."
Kim did have the resources to provide.
But there was some things I didn't want.
A potential response would be 'STDs' but I'd rather not be beheaded.
Respond in to her rant seemed like a trap.
So I didn't.
I left her there and went back downstairs.
Once I was back in the living room, I saw that Rebel was gone.
What I didn't see however was Kim creeping up behind me.
I heard her before I saw her.
"Listen up guys, Rebel and Rex now has permission to access the basement chamber and everyone in it."
"Awww no fair!"
"Yeah! They always gets special treatment!"
"Stop whining."
She turned and went back upstairs but not before sending me a dirty and wicked glare.
This meant that Rebel and Rex, the vilest members of this gang, now had permission to use and abuse Amber and Maggie.
I had to do something about this.
And who better to get help from than someone that was in the same predicament?
Knowing fully well that there was probably wires in the bunkers as well as all over the base, I asked Keith to meet me at the koi cove as it was walking distance away.
While waiting for him to arrive, I tried to figure out how to tell him that his girlfriend was being held captive by his own gang members for more than a week now.
I was also trying to figure out how I was supposed to tell him that I purposely did not tell him that I knew.
In any case, he was most definitely going it punch me. A punch I probably deserved.
"Yo Luke, what is this about?"
I took a deep breath and braced for impact.
"I know where Maggie is."
