Chapter Sixteen
For the nth time, I uncomfortably pull down my skirt as I stomp my heels to lessen the ache that's starting wear off my feet. I can't believe that this is what I have to bear every single day.
Ilang araw na'kong nandito pero hindi ko pa rin magawang masanay. Hindi kasi talaga ganito ang sinusuot ko regularly kaya ayaw pa tanggapin ng katawan ko ang uniform pinapasuot sa'kin dito sa Kirk.
This hellish clothes consist of above the knee red plaid pencil cut skirt—to be specific, sobrang fitted to the point na maling galaw ko lang mapupunit siya— and a white silk bow neck blouse. Required din na mag-heels ako for my entire shift. Tapos naka-low bun naman ang buhok ko as Ms.Debbie requested.
I swear, I've never look like a librarian in my whole life until now. Sa Central kasi walang uniform basta disente ang itsura kaya hindi na ako nagpapalit pagkagaling ko sa school.
"Recite my Ten Commandments."
I immediately quit slouching and stand to my finest manner. I silently cleared my throat before enumerating her rules inside the library.
"And when they fail to follow it?" Her brow shot up, waiting for my answer.
"After the third warning, he or she will be referred to the Disciplinary Office for disciplinary sanctions," I confidently answered.
Simula kasi kahapon tinatanong niya na ako tungkol dito tuwing pareho kaming walang ginagawa. It's a relief that I came prepared today. 'Di tulad kahapon na halos wala akong naisagot at pautal utal pa. First time kong na-recite sa kanya nang buo so I was hoping for a good outcome.
I anxiously tapped my fingers at the side of my skirt while waiting for her response. Shet naman. Pagdating talaga kay Ms.Debbie dama ko na estudyante ako kaysa pagiging hamak na assistant dahil sa aura niyang 'yan.
"Well..." Agad akong napatingin sa kanya. Anticipation's already killing me.
"I think you're ready," she continued. "You'll be in charge for the next hour while I take my break."
Nanlaki ang mata ko sa sinabi niya.
Ano raw? Ako, in charge? For an hour?!
My lips open up, ready to decline what she just said. It's too soon at hindi pa ako talagang ready. Hindi ko pa nga masyadong gamay dito sa loob. Syaka 'di ko kayang maging si Ms.Debbie!
It wasn't the same at the Central lib. Oo, mas malaki doon pero handful lang ang mga pumupunta. Dito kumurap ka lang, may gagawing kalokohan ang mga estudyante.
She gave me her infamous fierce look that made everyone tremble in fear. "May reklamo?"
