Chapter Seventeen
I felt like I was caught red-handed. Para akong kriminal na nahuli ng pulis. Ba't ba ko nagi-guilty kahit na wala naman akong ginagawang masama?
"O Kyle, nandito ka pala?" I gave out a nervous laugh as I think of an excuse to get out of this.
He didn't laugh though. Gano'n pa rin ang expression niya kaya lalo akong kinabahan.
Lumapit siya sa'kin at binitiwan ang duffel bag na nakasukbit sa balikat niya. "Anong ginagawa mo dito?"
Shet.
Out of all people, siya talaga ang pinaka-iniiwasan ko dito. Hindi ko kasi talaga alam kung anong sasabihin ko when all of a sudden nandito na lang ako bigla sa Kirk. I know he doesn't like JC. At ayokong magkagulo ulit sila katulad no'ng nangyari dati. Kyle was this close on beating him up so I don't dare mentioning JC's name on his face again.
"O-Obviously, I work here," I casually answered.
Inilagay niya ang kamay sa baywang niya at lalong nagtaka. "Saan?"
I rolled my eyes in sarcastic manner. I have to be unsuspicious para hindi na siya magtanong pa. "Syempre sa'n pa ba edi sa library niyo."
I stiffen when he openly eyed me from head to toe as a response. Na-conscious tuloy ako bigla sa suot ko.
I shifted my gaze from him. Buti na lang at wala masyadong tao. Though I can't help but to notice some people looking at our way from afar.
Inilihis ko ang tingin ko doon at ibinalik kay Kyle. "Nag-apply ako as an assistant librarian. Sa umaga ang shift ko kasi may pasok ako sa hapon."
Sana lang hindi niya na tanungin pa kung sino ang tumulong sa'kin or kung paano ko nalaman na nagha-hire sila ng side job sa library.
Napatango tango siya sa sinabi ko. "You didn't tell me na nakila tita ka pala no'ng isang gabi. Nasa bahay lang naman ako."
Thank God, he changed the subject. But I don't also want where this conversation's heading...
"Mabilis lang naman ako do'n syaka para saan pa?" I scoffed to hide my discomfort.
"Sayang. But that's okay, may sinabi naman siya sa'kin..." His mouth suddenly turned up in a smirk.
Instantly, I can feel my face heat up. Fudge. Tama ang hinala ko, nagkwento nga si ate sa kanya.
But I shouldn't look affected though. I need to calm down and treat all this as not a big deal. It's just Kyle, for Pete's sake!
