Pretty Much
Chapter Forty-three
Never in my whole life I would imagine myself walking inside a mansion or let alone have a dinner here.
"Dito ka nakatira?"
"Well technically, not anymore. I moved out since high school."
Halatang mahal at antique. On the way here, JC told me that this ancestral house was where his mother used to live along with her sister—Mrs. Enriquez.
Lagi nga raw siyang inaaya na doon na rin manirahan but he always turn it down. He told me that as much as he miss his parents, he just can't bear to live there.
Talk about his parents, I met them the other day via video call. Okay naman. Okay sila sa'kin. His dad even joked about JC having another reason not to migrate. Mabait din 'yung mom niya. Pareho silang hindi nakaka-intimidate. They've welcomed me warmly.
But that's not the only reason they wanted to talk to me. Besides, I want to be honest with him as much as I can.
His parents were mad and JC, well, it was the first time I've seen him outrageous. Pareho nilang 'di gusto ang nangyari. Kahit sinabi kong may point naman si Mrs.Enriquez, mali pa rin daw na she crossed the line.
They all talked to her about it and I don't know how it went.
I asked in the middle of him pointing to the paintings that his late grandmother made.
Nag-aalala siyang lumapit sa'kin. "Are you uncomfortable? Sabihin mo lang, I'll take you home."
"Hindi naman. It's just that...Nag-away ba kayo?"
"A bit," he admitted and I felt my face paled at that.
It was my decision too. I agreed to it."
"Kahit na, inipit ka niya...She took advantage of your vulnerability. And what's really bothering was she put ideas on your head about what you are to me." JC held my hands, unwavering concern's still darted on his whole face. "You're never a bad influence to me. If anything, you've made me better. My shortcomings are all my fault, not yours. And I'll assure you that I'd be more responsible now that you're here again."
