Logan's p.o.v.

I wake up this morning to Bernie staring at me, his face inches from mine. As soon as he saw me open his eyes he rolled over on his back, basically asking for me to pet him. I comply, and pet him for a few minutes until my alarm goes off.

I sigh and climb out of bed, putting on my glasses as I do so. I go straight to my closet. I choose my everyday work attire and my normal navy blue tie and black pants. I head to the bathroom to get changed, and Bernie already ran ahead of me into the bathroom. He's been a lot more clingy lately.

I turn on the light and he is already sitting right next to the houseplants Lydia put on the sink. I pet his head and then tried to get him to leave so I could get a shower. He didn't listen, and simply turned away. I shrugged and decided not to worry about his odd behavior. I turned on the warm water and got a quick shower.

I got dressed after I dried off and decided since it was only 7:05, I'd blow dry my hair. I took my time and finally stopped when my hair was dry. I opened my drawer under the sink and found out, to my dismay, that I ran out of hair gel. I sighed as I realized I wouldn't be able to gel my hair until I got to work. Speaking of work, I checked my watch to see what time it was.

I cursed under my breath. It wasn't 7:05 when I last checked. It was 8:05. Now it was 8:24 and I had six minutes to get out the door and get there in time. I didn't realize how long exactly I was in the shower for. I grabbed my phone, wallet, socks, and shoes and ran down the stairs. Lydia was sitting at the the table with two plates.

"Morning, lil bro! Made ya breakfast--"

"Late. Work. Bye." I yelled as I shut the door behind me. With my shoes and socks still in my hands I opened my car door and practically leaped in. I slammed it shut and sped to the grocery store.

As soon as I pulled into the parking lot, Virgil was standing outside with Patton. I ran across the parking lot, my feet burning as they hit against the pavement. Virgil turned around and smirked when he saw me. I ran between them and unlocked the doors.

"I am incredibly sorry I'm so late." I said quickly as the automatic doors swung open. Virgil shrugged and began walking inside.

"It's whatever. That's a real statement, though." He said, motioning to my look.

I rolled my eyes as I caught my breath. Patton didn't say anything, he was just looking at my hair. I ran my hand through it to make sure there wasn't anything in it. Sure enough, there wasn't anything in my hair. I looked at him curiously.

"Patton, what--"

"Your hair looks so fluffy!" He said and smiled. I felt my face flush at his compliment. I've always been self conscious of my natural hair.

"I know it looks awful, but--"

"Can I feel it?" He said, his face red. I was a bit taken aback by his odd request, but I'd never say no to him. Especially with the puppy dog eyes he was giving me. I bit back a smile as I nodded. He started jumping up and down as I bent down a good foot so he could reach my head.

He quickly patted my head and his eyes lit up again. "It's so fluffy! Why do you gel it?"

I shrug as I stand back up straight. "It's less messy. One less complication in my life, I suppose."

He hummed in response as we kept walking. We started to part ways so I could go get gel and he could get his groceries. Right before we turned away, he tugged the sleeve of my shirt. I looked down at him and his face was red as he smiled.

"You should keep your hair like that."

I couldn't help but smile as I replied, "I'll think about it."

He smiled and gave me a quick hug before he skipped off to catch up with Virgil. I walked down the toiletries isle and picked out the usual gel I use. I walked to the register and paid for it, putting money in the register. I then finally got the chance to put on my socks and shoes.

I looked at the gel and debated putting it in my hair, but I ended up looking in the small mirror beside the register and gelled my hair into it's normal fashion. It didn't take long for Virgil to come to the register and unload his cart full of ramen. I began counting them as I placed them in bags.

"You do understand how unhealthy this lifestyle is for you, correct?" I asked as I scanned the 36th bag. It still seemed that I was only halfway there.

Virgil rolled his eyes and walked away from the line. I was confused, but kept scanning his items nevertheless. Soon he came back with a single protein bar and made eye contact with me as he dropped it onto the counter. I sighed and he just smirked, proud of himself.

Patton ran up to the register quickly and placed down some bread, cereal, and milk. I finally finished scanning the last bag of ramen (72 in total) and then finished scanning Patton's items.

"Virge, this'll be to expensive." Patton said. Virgil shook his head.

"Nah. I've gotten more than this and it was only like 15 dollars. You can even ask Logan."

Patton looked at me with a questioning look and I simply nodded. "His record for the most ramen was exactly 212 bags."

Virgil smirked as Patton sighed. "I remember that. Our closet was full for two months."

"Proudest moment of my life." Virgil said. I rung up the price, which was totaled at 26.38. Patton handed me two twenty dollar bills and I quickly gave him the change. Virgil was already grabbing all of the bags of ramen and ran out of the store to the car.

"Cya, Logan!"

"Have a good day." I said as he left. I couldn't help but look out the window to see Patton yelling something at Virgil, only to have him laughing in response. As the two got in the car, I felt the feeling of loneliness settle in.

I looked down at the counter and saw a white envelope with my name written on it in beautiful cursive. I gently picked it up and opened it, making sure not to rip it. Inside was a small card with a pale blue flower on it. I opened the card and read the note printed in an abstract font.

Logan Smith,

Kindly join us in the wedding of Patton Tyler and Daniel Birsha on May 1st at 3:00 pm. The location of the union is at the First Baptist Church on 3rd Street. We hope to see you there!

My immediate instinct was to throw the note away. I wanted nothing to do with that part of his life. Both of us have admitted certain things to each other, and Patton has made it very clear he is not going to choose me. So I'm not going to torture myself with--

I looked on the back of the card to see a handwritten note.

Lo,

I know it'll be weird going. I don't even know if you'll see this note before you get rid of the invitation. I just wanted you to know that it would mean a lot to me to have you there. I know it's selfish of me to even ask such a thing, since I know your feelings for me. Yet I can't imagine this day without you in it. I can't put my finger on exactly why.
I haven't known you for long, but you've become one of the best friends I could ever ask for. Even though I'd love to be with you, the right thing to do is be with him. I may not feel right, but in time I might. Hopefully we'll eventually move on from each other and we can truly just be friends. Fake it 'till we make it, I guess.
I don't expect you to come. I'll be ok if you don't, because I know this is a lot to ask. Just know that it'd make me incredibly happy to see you there in the crowd. Plus, Virgil and Roman will be there if you don't want to be around me. I understand. You mean so much to me, Logan. More than you could ever imagine. It's up to you.

Patton
