L O G A N
My phone’s ringtone blared loudly, jolting me from the afternoon study I was doing with Ayo. I reached out for my phone and was surprised to see the caller ID. I picked up the call, happy that Scarlet finally reached out to me. “Hi Scarlet! It’s so good to hear from you…” I trailed off upon hearing her voice from the other line.
“Sunny…” her voice cracked a bit. That was enough to tell me that there was something wrong.
“Scarlet?! Scarlet what’s wrong, where are you?” my voice raised a pitch higher than normal. I was worried, why wouldn’t I be worried?! She told me the address to where she was and I hurriedly threw on a jacket and picked my keys and wallet.
“What’s wrong?” Ayo asked worriedly.
“It’s Scarlet. I might come home late or stay over depending on the gravity of the situation so please inform mum and dad for me. Bye!” I rushed my explanation and ran to the garage to take my car. Where Scarlet described to me was the rich part of the town if the huge ass mansions that lined the streets were any indication. I saw the familiar red hair sitting on the floor of the sidewalk across the road so I pulled up and ran over to where she sat. “Scarlet!” I yelled and crossed the desolate road.
Scarlet looked up at me and smiled showing her chipped tooth and dimple. The smile was bright and happy but her eyes said otherwise, she was sad and crying and if the angry red finger marks on her swollen cheeks along with the cut upon her right cheek are any indication, the is hurt as well. “Oh Scarlet.” I whispered as I fell to my knees.
My heart clenched seeing her bruised up and smiling even when she was clearly hurt. I could see the unshed tears in her eyes. I pulled her into my arms and embraced her comfortingly because she needed the comfort. “Let’s go.” I whispered and lifted her up in my arms bridal style.
The ride to her house was long and silent but I didn’t want to speak now. We got to her house in a few minutes. I picked up my phone and spoke to my AI which is still connected to Scarlet's house. “Chimera open the gate.” The brass gates automatically opened up and I drove inside the house. I pulled up inside the garage and carried Scarlet into the house. "Where do you want me to drop you at?" I asked.
"My attic."
"Are you sure you want me going there?" I asked her to make sure. She doesn't like people going there and I don't want to intrude. Scarlet nodded her head to affirm her decision so I carried her to the red door of the attic. I opened the door and climbed up into the room via the retractable ladder that hung from the door.
The sight I was greeted with when I switched on the light was a lovely one and was warmer than what I imagined. The walls were a light shade of brown which accentuated the wooden floor. A mattress lay on the floor at the extreme right of the room which had a red blanket and pillow folded neatly on it. I placed Scarlet on the mattress and informed her that I would be back soon.
I went to the bathroom to pick a first aid kit and to the kitchen to get an icepack for her cheeks. When I climbed into the attic, I saw a part of the room I did not see before, it was a picture wall. I decided to push my snooping till later and went to treat the cut on her right cheek and held the icepack over her them. “What happened to you?” I asked worriedly.
“I threw a temper tantrum.” She muttered. Although the possibility of that statement was not farfetched, there was something about the way she said that sentence that made me disbelieve her. I frowned sternly to show my disbelief, making her to falter. “I-I was made to go on a blind date by my father today.”
