Clarke's P.O.V

It had been an hour since we left the camp. It was hot and humid causing my hair to stick to my neck, it may have been shorter now but it was still annoying. I quickly fished a clip out of my pack and twisted my hair up onto my head. We were walking through thick woods, but so far no where we hadn't mapped. I stumbled over a rock as I lost my footing, I caught my balance and straightened up. No matter how little I wavered or how little the trip was, every time I stumbled Bellamy was at my side in seconds.

I waved away his hand for what must have been the 4th time in the hour. I loved how much he cared, but he was suffocating me, the humidity not helping. I sent him a quick look letting him know I was okay, and thanking him for caring. He relaxed beside me and we continued to follow the Grounders. We continued to walk through the woods, so far unbothered by any animals.

This was the first time I had really been outside the camp since I was attacked. It made me a bit nervous which made Bellamy all the more protective. Maybe that's why he wanted to come, I thought. Maybe he was scared for me, he shouldn't have been. Although romantic his choice to come with me was putting the camp at risk and I wasn't necessarily happy about that. When I had told the Grounders Bellamy would be escorting me, they had shared an look by said nothing. We reached a stream and the Grounders stepped on the rocks which created a sort of path through the rushing water. I followed, Bellamy right behind me.

We reached the other side without incident and continued to walk for maybe 20 minutes before the Grounders came to a stop. They turned to us and it was an understatement saying i was on edge, Bellamy had a hand on my back and I could tell he was just as tense. The women in charge came forward," we are about to enter the village, I wanted to remind you of our treaty and remind you that these are women and children." She said. I relaxed, I nodded before we started to move once more.

The Grounders started to talk in Trigedasleng, I language which I had heard them use before, but wasn't quite able to understand. I hoped one day I could learn. Octavia had been learning and teaching some of the younger children. She of course had learned from Lincoln, just one of the many useful things he shared with us. We approached a wooden wall covered in moss. We entered through a little gate, it reminded me of our camp. When we got inside there was a little village, huts were scattered throughout and we could see areas for storing food and areas for farming. I saw a child maybe 4 running around with a toy sword. I couldn't help but gasp. This caught the attention of the Grounder women, she looked at me closely, "our children roam freely in the camp, they go to a simple school and do chores, but they are happy." She said smiling. I smiled back.

I hadn't had a lot of experience with children, especially younger ones. I watched at the child played with his sword battling invisible enemies. He had dark hair and was wearing simple brown clothes but what caught at my heart was his smile. Bellamy grabbed my hand and squeezed it lightly, pulling me back to reality. I looked up at him, he was watching me carefully. I had never thought about being a mother, I knew on the ark it would probably happen, I'd contribute to the future, but then I had been arrested and it never became something I would think about. I shook my head a little, and pushed those thoughts away, I was here to do a job not day dream. "You okay, Princess?" Bellamy asked quietly. "Ya just thinking ", I said sending him a quick smile. I wondered if he could tell what I had been thinking.

We were guided to a small hut on the outside of the camp. We went inside, on a table was a young girl, maybe 12. She was lying on fur and looked pale. I walked over to her, scanning her quickly. "What happened to her?" I asked. It was a man who replied, probably her father, "she went out with a group of others, they say she fell and cut her leg. She has had a fever for 3 days now and she hasn't woken up this morning."
