I don't believe my eyes. We walk towards our classroom and I believe the two of them are avoiding looking at each other to hide the awkwardness. The day goes quite smoothly. Alvin and Scarlette avoid looking at each other as far as possible even though they are sitting together in class. They remind me of how awkward I used to feel when I realized I liked Cedric.
During lunch hour, I notice that they are still avoiding to look at each other. Alvin keeps glancing at Scarlette whenever she is talking to Adele. I smile at myself looking at my two friends. I believe they have started liking each other though it has just been two days since they met.
When Alvin waves goodbye as he drives past us, I look around at Scarlette and she is blushing again.
I am working on my laptop when I hear a knock on my room's door.
"Chari, can I come in?" Scarlette asks from the other side.
"Sure" I say and she opens the door and walks inside.
She comes and sits beside me. I glance around at her.
"I want to talk" she says.
"Okay. Just give me a minute" I say and shut my laptop and turn towards her.
She looks lost. I am taken aback by this look. She looks completely different.
"Essie, is everything okay?" I ask a bit loudly and she looks at me.
"What were you thinking?" I ask again.
"Did you feel awkward being around Cedric when you started liking him?" she finally asks.
"Yes. I used to feel so awkward being around him when I realized that I had started liking him" I reply looking at her.
"Did you feel nervous around him?" she asks again.
"Not nervous exactly but I was a bit scared. We were best friends then and we used to spend a lot of time talking" I reply.
"Why were you scared?" she asks once again.
"Because I didn't want him to find out. I couldn't risk losing a best friend" I reply looking at her.
"Why are you asking me these questions?" I ask her.
"I think that I have started liking Alvin" she replies.
"I know it is a bit stupid. I mean it has just been two days and he is so friendly and kind" she says.
"Nothing is wrong with it. If it is how you feel then it's okay" I say taking her hands with mine.
"And I think he likes you as well" I say and she smiles for the first time after revealing her feelings.
"Really?" she asks.
"I think so. If you want me to find out then I can do that for you but wait for a week at least" I half request.
I don't want her to face the pain I have faced in the past. I don't want her to jump into any conclusion, not yet.
"Will you do that for me Chari?" she asks tears falling down her cheeks.
"Yes" I reply and pull her into a tight hug.
I just hope Alvin likes her as well because if he does, I will be glad if my two friends end up together.
