Not only was he a newbie, though extremely great at volleyball for one, she was tall, the perfect stature for a volleyball player, he was a crossdresser.
"You're not gay."
"What?"
Haikyuu for all the people out there who love the salty dinosaur Tsuk...
So I realized there was this sorta big plot hole, I patched it up but you likely didn't reread that chapter, so: Akiko helps the Karasuno girl's team because she doesn't want their opponents to think it's an easy win whenever they face Karasuno.
"Good practice."
AKIKO HUFFED AND PANTED AS SHE RESTED ON THE FLOOR. It was Oikawa and Akiko's last practice before Spring High. The practice didn't last long, only 4 days or so.
"It wasn't good, you sucked."
Akiko rolled her eyes, getting up. "Thanks for teaching me. Can we continue after Spring High?"
Oikawa thought for a moment, tapping a finger against his chin. In the end, he shrugged deciding, why not? "Sure."
Akiko started walking away, a few feet away from Oikawa, she turned her head back and said, "Next time, we'll win." She was about to continue walking before Oikawa stopped her.
"Oh, but you will." Both of them snickered.
"Bye, Oikawa. Thanks again!"
"Farewell."
As Oikawa looked at her silhouette, getting smaller and smaller, he suddenly realized something. Did I just... Did I just teach the enemy? "Fuuuuuck." He dragged out his u and facepalmed.
Akiko yawned, she was sitting next to Kei, waiting for their first match to start at the Spring High. Kei noticed her tired look. "You idiot, did you sleep late last night?"
"Yeah.. I was doing something."
Kei flicked her forehead harshly. "Ouch.." She muttered. "You knew we had Spring High today and you decided to sleep late? How much of an idiot are you?"
"It's not like I'll be playing anyway." Akiko huffed, rubbing her forehead.
"Don't you start with that." Kei pointed a finger at her. "Sorry.." She apologized. She'd gotten way better since that.. happened. Her self-esteem was definately higher than last time, and it certainly got a boost after winning agaisnt the Aoba Johsai girls team.
"Where the hell were you these past few days? You're usually trying to bother me."
"Huh?" Akiko smirked. "You're saying that you actually like it when I 'bother' you? That you like my pick up lines?" She wiggled her eyebrows.
"Just answer the question."
"Well, I've been doing family errands, mostly." Akiko's excuse wasn't all that great, considering an uprise in family errands wouldn't be plausible, and Akiko isn't reliable enough for errands.
"Oh really?"
Before Akiko could respond, Michimiya suddenly ran up to them, startling the whole team.
"Michimiya San?" Daichi asked.
She panted and put her hands on her knees to rest up before turning to Akiko. "Akiko, I need you to replace--"
"Shh, you're talking too high." Akiko had a feeling it was about the girls volleyball team and her. Judging by the word replace, something happened and she had to play. There were too many people around that could overhear it.
"Sorry. I need you to replace Sasaki, she woke up with a bad cold this morning and couldn't come. We've been looking for you since we arrived and we just found you. Can you please come? Our match is right after yours but you'll have to wear Sasaki's shirt."
Both Michimiya and her team looked at her expectangly.
"I, uh- sure. But Michimiya, I don't have 'equipment' here." By that, she meant a sports bra.
"Shit." Michimiya muttered, surprising the third years.
The girls team was in a dire situation, and they needed her help. She could run back home and make it at least just in time if she took the bus and..
"I'll run back home, grab some equipment, and I'll be right back! But I've got go now. Don't worry Michimiya San. Daichi San?" Akiko looked up at Daichi for a gesture of agreement. He nodded at her.
She took a deep sigh as she got up. "See you guys."
She started bolting, with Michimiya shouting a thank you before she got to far and running back to her team.
'I hope she's going to be fine.' Tsukishima thought. 'Knowing that idiot, she'll trip.'

K, so I found a better picture of Kei with a mask on, but he still straight up looks like he'll murder you, but still: be safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, stay 6 feet apart, yada yada.
