CAMILLE'S POV
I decided to ask the dame to show me her village and town. Before confronting the count, I need to know what exactly happens between the count's new authority and the villagers because there were quite a few versions of what's happening in this land. I just want to make sure that I make the right decision in the end.
"So this was your school? It looks old, and the building looks like it's about to collapse." The dame sighed.
"I was planning to help the villagers to rebuild the school and other necessities with my reward money. But I wasn't informed that there is a new count that takes control of my village and he even dares to raise the tax on the villagers. They're suffering because of one greedy man." She unexpectedly turned to face me.
"I'm not saying that your grace needs to do something. It is just me venting my heart out." Well, I am here to help the villagers.
"You've been away from the capital this few days, so you probably haven't heard about the queen dowager's plan to eradicate those who wish to harm this country. I have started to eliminate a few of the royal court officials." The dame was surprised.
"The queen dowager finally takes action against the officials? Why? What changes her mind?" I understand that she has no idea what's happening in the imperial palace, but should I tell her the reason why the queen dowager decided to make a move?
"Someone poisoned the king, and he is now bedridden. The queen took control of the court in his stead. This matter was not informed publicly because the imperial family doesn't want the citizen to feel uneasy. There are only a few people who know about this, and that includes me." The dame was speechless.
"The king is bedridden? Who would dare to hurt him?" I shrugged my shoulder.
"Rumour has it that it was his advisor, the king's brother himself. But that is just some baseless rumours I heard the last time I went to the palace." I can see that her mind is working trying to deduce this matter herself.
"How did the first imperial princess taking all of this? She is a princess, but that doesn't mean she doesn't feel heartbreak." Is she concerned about the princess?
"She's currently living with the queen dowager and so does the rest of the princes and princesses." She sighs in relief.
"Isadora? Is that you?" We turned around to see a woman smiling at us while holding her children on each hand.
"Oh, hi. How are you doing?" The dame's body language changes upon seeing this woman. I wonder if they had a history together.
"I'm fine. So, is this your new woman? She's beautiful." Her new woman? So she was dating females all this time? The dame unexpectedly wrapped her arms around my waist.
"Yes, and she is here to see my parents. How is your life after marriage? It looks like you're having your third child soon." Isadora forced a smile. It's been ages since anyone wrapped her arms around me. But it seems so natural when Isadora did it.
I feel safe in her arms.
"Well, yea. My husband loves me so-, " that woman stopped midway of her sentences.
"Dora, about the past. I'm sorry. I am. I didn't mean to spread all those rumours about you and your condition. It was my fault that you have to flee to the capital." Rumours? Flee? Condition? What is happening? I can't keep up.
"Let bygones be bygones. I didn't flee to the capital. I was looking for a way to help my family to earn more money. And now, I have succeeded. I'm now a knight for the imperial family." That woman was shocked to hear that.
