ISADORA'S POV
"Just as I thought, the holy priest was not in the West camp at all. It was just his way to fool us. Just look at how many holy knights do we have to kill so that we know about the truth? How many more human lives, do We have to take so this bastard would stop using them for his gain? Your highness, is this the type of war you have to go through to be the leader you are?" The shadow empress pulled her sword from the leader of the holy knights and placed it in its sheath.
"This whole battle is normal for rulers like me. I doubt it'll change once you take the throne, but you can try to change it. Diplomacy is a weird concept for these people. Politician and business owner doesn't go well even when we finally found peace. They always want more than what they can have." I grabbed hold of my sword handle and kept it inside the sheath.
"Well, this is just not right. Should I try to implement diplomacy, will it works for savages like the holy priest?" The shadow empress turned to face me with a faint smile.
"For someone like the holy priest, he will never see the light in any diplomacy talk. All he cares about is power, and the Empire has what he wants. Even if we try to be a civilized human being, he will be the monster we all try to conceal within us. So, instead of using word of mouth, we should just use our sword to make him yield." I shake my head after hearing the shadow empress's thoughts on this matter.
"Where are your concubines?"
"They're interrogating the sub-commander of this camp. They wish to know more about the holy priest and his devious plans to take over the Empire." I can feel my wounded hand went numb from all the swinging.
"Does your wound hurt?" I shake my head, no.
"No. Anyway, I wonder what happened at the East garrison. Will they be okay?" Elpis smiled.
"Don't worry. Virtra will never let the East falls. Since we have taken the West garrison back from the enemy, we shall now commence the plan to infiltrate the Holy City. They dare to harm my concubine. The only suitable punishment for hurting my concubine is death, and I want the holy priest to lick my shoes once we take over his home." This woman has such a scary aura resonating with her.
After looking back at all the corpses, chills running down my spine because every single blow this woman gave her enemies were fatal. Elpis has disregarded her humanity for the Empire, but what exactly does the Empire ever do for her? Am I going to be exactly like her?
How will the Empire reacts when they know that a woman is leading them? Elpis has done everything in the shadows, but I will be doing it in the open. I will introduce myself as the empress regnant once I sit on the throne. Will they be able to accept me as their ruler; A commoner.
Unlike this woman in front of me, I am nothing but a peasant, while Elpis has the blood of a royal, the goddess, and the witch.
"What's wrong, little miss knight?" The shadow empress seems to notice changes in my body language.
"Will I be able to do wonders like you, your highness? These warriors, soldiers, knights, they all followed you with their life at stakes. Will I be able to do the same? As a knight, sure, I can be their leader, but the ruler of a whole country is different. What if I fail you?" Elpis chuckled.
"You will, countless times. But that doesn't mean you will let go of your responsibility. You have an obligation for your subjects. The weak need protection from the strong while the strong needs a ruler that they can look up to. Be both Isadora. You're indeed stronger than me if you just believe in yourself, but as for ruling a country, you need to learn from Camille and your concubines. Now, do you see the reason why I force you to take on these concubines? Because I know Camille can't do it alone. She needs help." Why did I never thought of it that way?
