THIRD PERSON POV
"Ophelia, did I do something wrong?" Archduke Nicolai inquired his fiancée. The first imperial princess was daydreaming, thinking about her father and the fate of her family.
"I'm sorry, your grace. My mind has been boggling up with questions after questions about my current situation. It has nothing to do with your grace." Nicolai smiled at his fiancée.
"We've official engaged, and your family has witnessed our union. It's only natural for me to care for you. If there's anything you wish to talk about, I am here." The first imperial princess looked up to the archduke.
"Do I have to leave this country after we're married? As the first princess, I can't fathom the thoughts of leaving my sick father and moved into your dukedom. I'm sorry, your grace of my question seems rude." Nicolai chuckled.
"There's no need for you to be apologetic. Unfortunately, yes. You have to leave this country and moved into my dukedom. Since you're my wife, you have to be the archduchess of my dukedom and household. But since I put into the account of your current situation, I decided to postpone our marriage until the king is well enough." The imperial princess was grateful, but something deep in her tells her that her father can't be like he was before.
Nicolai noticed this placed both hands on the princess's shoulder.
"Others might see our union as nothing but a way for both this country and the Empire to be united. But for me, our union is more than a political marriage. We're a constitution that needs each other. Trust me, Ophelia. Your father will heal, but it takes time. Consort mother Bella is a talented healer. She will save your father." The first imperial princess nodded before kissing the archduke on his cheek.
"You're the first man who managed to talk sense into me when I feel like the world is ending. To be honest, I was against this union with all my heart. My grandmother dowager did the right decision, after all." Ophelia smiled at her fiancé.
Nicolai froze when the princess laid a kiss on his cheek.
"Umm- ahem!" Nicolas tries to hide the fact that he is embarrassed by the princess's action since the maids are watching them.
"Milord, there is something I'm curious about." Nicolai pulled out a chair for her fiancée to sit on before waving for the maids to prepare their refreshment.
"By all means, your highness, ask away." Nicolai smiled at Ophelia.
"Will you be taking concubines once we're married?" That question completely shocked the archduke.
"What makes you think I will?" Nicolai inquired while he watched the princess's body language.
"I heard that your empress mother has one official wife and ten concubines. That is why I'm asking. Do you have the desire to have more than one partner?" Nicolai smiled.
"Since we're engaged, I guess I have to be honest with you. At first, I did have the desire to have countless concubines, but I changed my mind." The princess was curious.
"Why? What makes you change your mind, milord?" Nicolai thanked the maid for the cup of tea.
"Because as I grew up, I saw countless of women trying to gain my favour, and they all have their agenda. I'm sure you heard that I am not entirely a noble-born archduke. This title was given to me by empress mother. All those women were such sweetheart when they tried to have my attention. But when I leave the room, they look down on me and say that they only wish to be close to me because of my mothers' influence." Nicolai keeps a smile on his face while Ophelia stares at him, dumbfounded.
