Chapter 33 | Hell on Earth

THIRD PERSON POV

"Please... I beg of you! I have a family back at home. I was just following orders! Please let me live! My wife is pregnant! I want to see our child's face before I go. Please! Let me go." Isadora watched as the holy knight begged for his life to be spared.

"You should think about your family before killing the people of the Empire." The dame remained expressionless.

"Please! I know deep inside you have the heart of a saint. Please let me live. I promise I will help you." The dame raised her sword.

"If it only took you this much to change side and betrayed your superior, you could do the same if I ever let you into the Empire alive!" Isadora decapitates the holy knight with a small smile on her face.

"Find the rest of the teaming enemy knights. Kill them all." The Empire's soldier raided the enemy's camp while trying to find the prisoners.

"We have found an underground lair which they kept a group of children inside." one of the imperial knights informed.

"Where are the adults?" The dame asked.

"We are still searching for them, milady." The dame sighed before stabbing the enemy knights who were injured on the ground. The imperial knight was surprised to see how ruthless the dame can be.

"Milady!" The dame turned around.

"We have found the adults. The men were torture while the women were- they were-," The knight seems lost at words.

"Bring me to them." The knight nodded before leading the way. As soon as Isadora steppes her foot into the holding cell, she was devastated to see the state the women were. Some of them doesn't even have any clothes to cover their body.

"The men were forced to watch as their wife, sister, daughter, and even friends get tortured by these imbeciles? And here I thought the holy knights should be working for god!" Isadora gave her orders to slaughter every single holy knight that was caught.

"Milady. We have some urgent news from the camp. Her highness wants you to be at camp right now." Isadora was confused, but she did as told. On her way back towards the camp, she can't ignore the uneasiness in her heart. Even though the mission was a success, why does she have to feel so worried?

"Did her highness mentioned anything?" Isadora asked the knight.

"No, but it seems like her highness receives words from the capital. Her expression changes when she read the letter. It must be from the imperial consort. That is the only logical reason for her highness sudden changes." the dame swallowed a massive lump in her throat.

When they finally arrived at the main camp, the dame noticed a carriage from the capital was waiting for someone.

"Lady Isadora arrived." Someone announced when the dame entered the camp. Elpis looked up to the dame with worried looks.

"The imperial consort has summoned you back to the capital. Take this letter and read it yourself on your way back. Take a few knights with you. I'll stay here with Aurora to finish what we started." The dame was confused, but she followed the orders from the shadow empress.

"Yes, your majesty." Isadora went back to her living camp and packed her things. Once it's done, she went to the carriage and began her journey again to the capital with a few of the knights. With curiosity, she opens the letter and read the content.

Her eyes widen when the letter content some shocking news about her wife. The archduchess was on her way back to the duchy when a group of bandits attacked her carriage.
