Chapter 40 | The Gathering

THIRD PERSON POV

"The holy priest escaped? I thought that might be the case. That is why I ordered the imperial knight to stand guard at every main entrance into the city. Knowing how brazen empress mother's method can be, she might scare the man." Camille fan herself with the hand fan before smiling at Cassiopeia.

"Did they manage to find the snow queen?" Cassiopeia nodded.

"That's good enough. It's only a matter of time before we have the holy priest in our hands." Camille flinched when she tried to get up from her seat. Cassiopeia noticed this and went immediately to the archduchess side.

"Your grace, you need to have some rest. You shouldn't be doing all this work since you have a child in you. Let the concubines do it." Camille shakes her head.

"It's only natural for the legal wife to host this social gathering. I will only attend the party for a bit. After greeting the guests, I will let you guys handle the rest while I go to rest. Will that be okay?" Cassiopeia nodded.

Cassiopeia helped the archduchess up from her seat and followed her closely from behind.

"Your grace." Sophia and Aphrodite bow when they saw Camille walked out of her room.

"You look like you're about to throw up again." Aphrodite shakes her head.

"I'm fine, your grace." Camille sighed.

"I wonder how Isadora will handle you once you're with child." The concubines were surprised to hear such words coming from the archduchess.

"Pardon?" Camille smiled.

"In time, you will understand what I'm trying to say. Now, open the door and let us welcome our guests." When the archduchess and the concubines arrived at the gathering, Camille introduced the concubines to all the noble ladies that presence. The aristocratic ladies of the capital show their respect for the princesses, but when it was Sophia's turn, they all show how disgusted they are.

"A courtesan? Galatea must be losing its grip on reality. To think the rumoured next master of Galatea would be associating oneself with a courtesan. Despicable." Sophia pun on a smile on her face as she follows Camille's step in greeting the guests, but every single one of the guests gives her the cold shoulder.

Camille was about to say something the former courtesan placed a hand on the archduchess's shoulder while shaking her head.

"I had expected this kind of reaction from the guests. My reputation as a courtesan from the tower of Camellia has exceeded me once again. Well, what can I expect as the number one beauty in the capital? Even the husband of such refine, ladies couldn't get their hands to himself once they see me." Sophia chuckled.

"Instead of being disgusted with me, they should do something about themselves. I mean, there must be a reason for the husband to find someone better than their wife. Maybe, they should lift their arm and smell their odour. Who knows that might be the reason." Sophia chuckled, while the princesses were trying to keep themselves from laughing.

Camille remained nonchalant about the whole comment, but deep inside her heart, she can't ignore the fact that Sophia just roasted almost half the ladies in the ballroom.

Camille and the concubines continued to greet their guests. The archduchess was having a conversation with a grand duchess from the Capital when Zara, Camille's youngest child, walked into the ballroom.

The archduchess and concubines were surprised.

"I'm sorry for being late, mother." Zara apologised to her mother, who only smile at her.
