ISADORA'S POV
"Young master Harris, are you okay?" The young master nodded his head, but he's not in good shape. He's only 15 years old, but he wants to train like a true knight. Should I be worried? What if his mother sees him like this? It looks like I'm bullying him.
"No need to worry, Miss Mercer. My mother won't say anything after seeing me so. Besides, I did tell her that I wish to be as strong as her when it comes to wielding a sword. My mother has been protecting the country from our enemies since the day she took an oath to be the head of the house. Generally, I share her burden as her eldest son." He's young, but his mind thinks as an adult does.
It's typical for young nobles like him to think that way. They're born with a purpose, and that is to bring glory to their family name. And to think that her mother is associated with the notorious shadow empress, that is something.
These children called the shadow empress and her concubines as their grandmother! Just how influential do her ducal house can be?
"Miss Mercer? Are you listening?" I was brought back to reality when the young master waved his hands in front of me.
"I'm sorry. Can you repeat that?" The young master pointed at my personalised sword.
"How did you get that sword? It's beautiful, and it holds such a mighty presence. If it's just a normal sword, I wouldn't be batting an eye for it." I smiled at the young master.
"Well, the Knighthood custom made this sword for me because I can't wield a normal sword. Would you like to hold it?" I asked the young master. He nodded.
For others, it is a mighty sword, but for me, this sword is nothing special. Because by the end of the day, every time I kill someone, it needs to be refined or replaced.
"Oh my god! It's heavy! I couldn't lift it even with my two hands!" I watched as the young master struggles to lift the sword.
"Don't worry. In time, you will get to wield a sword like this as well." He gave up on trying to wield it.
"I wonder who will win if you decided to go against my mother in a duel. As the duchess, my mother let her knights do all the dirty work while she commands them. But as a soldier, my mother will slaughter everything in her path just to achieve her goal. My nanny told me that she was pregnant with me when she went to war. Only after she won a duel against the enemy general that she knew that she was pregnant." My eyes widen.
"So, in other words, you've been to war even before you were born?" Young master Harris nodded.
"Others might call her a monster, but she's my mother, and she's no monster. She's just a woman who wants to protect what matters to her. I am aware of my mother's offer to you, Miss Mercer. If you agree to be part of our ducal house, it would mean so much to us young Hawthorne. My mother- she needs someone to protect her. The number of people who wants her dead is unimaginable." This young master cares about her mother.
With the way the duchess handle her matters, she's bound to have a few enemies targeting her and her family. Even with the protection of the Empire of Galan, those who wish to see her suffer won't care about anything.
"Harris," we both turned to face the young miss.
"Zara? Where's Gabriel? Why are you alone?" Young master Harris asked his little sister who waved for him. They talked for a moment before the young master went back to where I am.
"Miss Mercer seems like we have to postpone our lesson today. My mother needs my presence at the moment." His eyes widen when I easily lifted my sword and placed it on my shoulder.
