"Condolences to your family, Mrs. Anderson" Mary muttered to Connor's mother while the latter just nodded and smiled sadly at her.
Today was Connor's burial. Mary and Rose decided to go because he was their friend too. Arman and Sheryl were also greeting some of the people, mostly their business partners.
When it was Mary's time to pay her respects, she dropped three tulips unto Connor's grave while muttering sorry as if he could hear her.
He was persistent enough to court her again even though she was already engaged, but his consistency dragged him to his grave. If only he had let her be and found someone else, he wouldn't be six feet below the ground right now.
It was all that stalker's fault! Whoever he was, Mary was going to make sure he'll pay for killing Taylor and Connor.
If he touched Leo...
No. She would go nuts. She'll hunt him to the ends of the earth if that was possible. But right now, she needs to look out for the people around her. Their lives are in danger.
"Mary, come on" Rose whispered to her ear she dragged her away from the front.
They returned to their seats in the middle with Mary's parents. While other people paid their respect, Mary noticed movements from the corner of her eye.
Under a tree, she spotted a woman staring at her. She didn't even avert her gaze when Mary stared back. Her cheeks were hollow, dark circles were below her eyes, and her right arm was in a cast.
From a distance, Mary noticed that the woman looked very thin and unhealthy. Her bones were visible under her plain maroon shirt and had thin legs. If she grew a little weight, maybe she would've been beautiful. But Mary wasn't one to judge.
"Hoy. Okay ka lang?" Rose tapped Mary's shoulder. She only nodded at Rose before turning her head once more to the woman, but she wasn't there anymore!
Mary surveyed her surroundings to spot the woman but she couldn't see her anymore.
"Weird" Mary mumbled.
Marco was sleeping when a knock sounded from his door. He stretched his long legs and walked briskly to his door. When opened, it revealed his mother carrying a tray of cookies and milk on the side. He smiled softly at her and removed the tray from her hands before placing it in a table while his mother followed behind him. Turning around to face her, he sat back on his bed.
"Para saan ito mama?" he playfully raised his brows.
"Bakit? Bawal ba maghatid ng pagkain sa anak ko?" she retorded back.
"Hindi naman, na miss ko nga. Doon sa selda, puro munggo ang pinapaulam sa amin kaya na miss ko mga luto mo" he joked at her, but she didn't laugh. She sat beside him and hugged his torso.
"Bakit, ma?" he asked worriedly when she sniffed.
"N-Namiss rin kita anak. Ang tagal mong nawala dito sa bahay" she touched his face softly.
"I'm sorry, ma. Kinailangan kong gawin iyon kasi gusto kong mabuhay ka" he frowned.
"Alam ko anak, alam ko. Pero, kinailangan mo bang patayin ang mga magulang ni Leo?" she whispered to him.
"Ma. Hindi ka ba naniniwala sa akin?" he looked at her.
"I-imposible lang kasi n-" she strated but Marco cut him off.
"Ma, ayaw ko ng gatas. Di na ako bata. Tubig nalang po" he changed the subject.
She only nodded her head in understanding and headed towards the kitchen. When she was gone, Marco released a breath.
No matter how many times he says it, no one would believe him. Even his own mother. Yes, he stole from the De Valencia that night, yes he carried a gun, but for the millionth time.
He didn't kill them.
That was his thoughts when the door opened again, creating a creaking sound. He returned his smile and lifted his head.
"Ang bilis m-" his eyes widened when he saw that it wasn't his mother who entered his room.
Emily Medina never felt more happier when her son, Marco, returned the other day straight from jail. It has been ten years since she saw him. When he was dragged to prison, he requested that she don't visit him because he didn't want her to see him behind bars. So she didn't.
Ten long years of waiting, she can finally glance at her son's face. His hair grew longer and a stubble now adorned his jaw. He had this aura about him that screamed danger. Yet for her, he was her baby boy. Her star.
Right now, she was getting a cup of water for her boy. When he was a kid, he loved her home baked cookies. She always put a mug of milk on the side, yet today, he requested water.
Her son was a man now, he wasn't a baby no more.
She was climbing at the stairs when she heard grunts and rumbles from Marco's room. Emily walked faster as her weak legs could go while carrying the glass of water in her left hand.
With her right, she opened the door and was about to ask what Marco was doing when the glass fell from her hand and broke into tiny little pieces on the floor.
"Marco!" she screamed.
At her voice, the masked man that was straddling Marco's waist turned to face her. He was wearing a black shirt and had a black mask on his face.
His right hand was balled into a fist and were red with Marco's blood while his left was on Marco's neck, nearly choking him to death.
When Marco saw that the masked man's attention was on his mother, he bashed his head against the man so he fell from his waist. The man held his aching forehead and winced as Marco weakly breathed on the floor, still grasping at air.
The masked person suddenly stood up and ran towards the room's open window before glaring at Marco and jumping down, away from Emily's prying eyes.
When the man was gone, Emily rushed to Marco on the floor. She cried when she saw all the bruises and wounds on his barely recognizable face. With her trembling hands, she tried to look for a pulse.
She cried with joy when she felt a heartbeat, but it was barely noticeable.
