Chapter 17

"Ayos ka lang ba talaga love? Hindi ka ba nasaktan?" Leo tried to rise from his hospital bed but Mary stopped him.

"Oo nga. I'm fine. I'm not hurt" Mary smiled weakly at him.

They had just got back from Rose's burial and Mary's bodyguards immediately informed Leo about what happened.

"Ang kapal talaga niya lumapit sa'yo. He even dared to kill you" Leo growled angrily.

Mary only shook her head at her fiance's anger. She feels special every time Leo would get protective over her, she truly feels cared for.

As Leo mumbled profanities, Sheryl burst through the door and immediately hugged Mary to her body.

"Are you okay, Mary?" Sheryl grasped her face in her hands.

"Yes, mom. I'm fine. Why do everyone keeps asking that eh si Jared yung tinamaan ng bala?" Mary grinned weakly.

"You almost died today, honey. How can you say that?" Sheryl exclaimed.

"Well, I didn't" Mary huffed.

Sheryl only breathed and focused her gaze to Leo to which he smiled.

"Ikaw ba Leo? Kamusta ka na? Kailan ka daw makakalabas dito?" Sheryl asked Leo.

"I'm fine tita. Pero mga ilang araw pa daw bago ako maka alis kasi hindi pa magaling ang mga sugat ko" he smiled at Mary's mom.

"Okay. Well, bilisan mong mag pagaling. May kasal pa kayo ng anak ko" Sheryl smirked at Mary.

Mary immediately frowned as she recalled what Eric said earlier. She motioned for Ray and Jorge to guard outside the door. As they got out, Leo and Sheryl's eyes focused on Mary.

"What's wrong?" Sheryl asked her daughter.

"May bad news" Mary muttered as she held Leo's hand.

"What is it, love?" Leo furrowed his brows.

"May sinabi kanina si Eric that bothered me. About the deaths that happened" Mary looked at her mother.

"And?" Sheryl asked for her to continue.

"He said he only killed Taylor, pero hindi sila Connor and Rose. Apparently, he also said na hindi siya ang bumugbog kay dad" Mary announced

"What? What do you mean?" Leo tried to rise.

"You mean there's another killer?" Sheryl gasped to which Mary nodded solemnly.

"W-We have to increase security then. Mary! Baka mapano ka!" Sheryl exclaimed.

"Ma, we are not sure. I mean, si Eric ang nagsabi nun. We don't know for sure kung nagsasabi siya ng totoo" Mary muttered.

"Well, what if he's telling the truth? We can't know for sure!" Sheryl panicked.

"Kung totoo yun, then I'll be fine. I've got Jorge and Ray behind my back. It's okay" Mary convinced her mother but Sheryl mumbled profanities.

"Basta always be safe, love. I don't want to lose you" Leo held Mary's hand.

"I will" Mary smiled at his fiancé.

"Magkano po lahat manong?" Marco asked the vendor as he held a bottle of water and a plastic full of biscuits.

"Singkwenta lahat, hijo" the old man said.

Marco got his wallet out but he only saw a thousand peso bill and no coins. He brought out his money and faced the old man.

"May barya po ba kayo dito?" Marco asked but the man shook his head.

He sighed and was about to go to another store when a hand handed the old man fifty peso.

"Ako na po magbabayad sakaniya" a female voice said while the old man tucked it away.

Marco turned to inspect the stranger. The woman wore a baggy simple white shirt and loose pants, her hair greasy, and her hollow eyes staring at him.

It was the crazy woman who attacked Mary the other day!

She motioned for him to follow her, so he did. Once in a dark alley, the woman turned around to face him once more.

"Kilala mo si Leo De Valencia, hindi ba?" the woman raised her brows.

"Oo. At sino ka naman?" Marco asked.

"I'm Grace Burnham" she only said.

"Bakit mo ako dinala dito? Anong kailangan mo sa akin?" Marco raised his brows at Grace.

"Parehas tayo ng gusto Marco" Grace muttered as she circled Marco.

"We both want to take out Leo for what he did to us" she whispered behind his ear.

When the lady faced him once again, he shook his head in confusion.

"Bakit mo gustong pag higantihan si Leo? Sino ka ba sa buhay niya?" Marco asked.

Grace took a step towards him as she stared at his rugged face. With a solemn whisper, she said.

"I'm his ex. His abused ex"
