The sounds of footsteps are heard across a room on a rainy night. It was only two thirty in the morning, yet someone was awake. In the dark, a silhouette of a teenager is visible, his hands buried deep in the cabinets, reaching for something inside.

"Bilisan mo!" the 19 year old boy hissed harshly at his companion.

The one near the cabinets turned towards the one guarding the door. He was already getting jitters from what they were doing, but he has to do it. Unless he wants his mother to die.

"Hindi ko makita, pahiram muna ng flashlight" the boy urged at the one near the door. At this, he glared at the other and tossed the flashlight to his awaiting hands. The other quickly turned it on and continued ramaging through the cabinet.

The rain outside was very heavy, and when a lightning struck, the face of a teenager was revealed. His complexion was fair, his eyes a brown color, but his lips were turned into a frown. He knew that what they were doing would get him in trouble, but he wanted to help his friend, Marco. He was the one who was searching through the cabinet.

Marco was the one who helped him in school when he was getting bullied. He treated him like a little brother. They had lunch together, joined the same groups, and even helped him court this girl in the other section. Now, it was his turn to help Marco. But all through these, Marco introduced his escape to the other world. Drugs.

Marco wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, so he had to work for a living while being a student at the same time. It was time consuming but it still wasn't enough.

While Marco had to work hard, this boy was exactly the opposite of his friend. New gadgets, laptops, even sport cars! He got them all. Though his parents learned of his drug use and drove Marco away from him, they would still meet secretly. When Marco presented his financial problems to him, he came up with the idea to rob. His own parents at that!

At first, Marco refused. He thought, how can he do that to his own parents? But that thought cleared when he saw his sick mother coughing blood. He had to do it then.

So, on this night, their plan went into motion. Marco would find the cash while the boy would be the lookout for his parents in case they woke up. He let Marco come inside through his room's window when his parents retired to their chambers.

It was taking forever for Marco to pick the lock of his friend's parents vault. It was sealed with an old lock but he had to take his chances. What seemed like thirty minutes, the lock finally clicked and opened before him. Stacks of money are folded against one another and jewelries were adorning the vault. He danced quietly in his head as he scooped up a handful and put them in his bag. When he took enough, he closed the vault again and stood up to face his friend.

He smiled at his friend in success and a silent thank you. He started walking towards him when a shadow appeared behind the boy. The boy didn't know at first, but when he noticed that a shadow was covering him, he turned around and came face to face with a man.

His father!

He quickly ran to stand behind Marco, afraid of the consequences.

Mr. De Valencia took a step forward towards Marco and his son who was cowering. In Marco's hand, he saw a bag full of cash. He knew then what they were doing.

"What is the meaning of this?" he asked his son while frowning

"D-Dad..i c-can explain.." the boy stuttered.

The man's gaze lifted towards Marco. He must have been behind this! He thought.

"Ikaw?! Hindi ba't sinabihan kita na layuan na ang anak ko?" He sneered at Marco. Marco only remained silent.

"Look what you made him do. Convincing him to steal from his own parents? How low of you!" He gestured towards his son.

It was the other way around though! I didn't convince your son, he was the one who convinced me to rob you! Marco screamed inside his head. He needed to get away now, his mother's hospital bills were piling up by the minute.

When the man focused his glare at his son, he didn't notice that Marco was already pointing a gun at him. When he did, his eyes widened and he carefully took a step back while his hands were in front of him, ready to stop the bullet.

"You don't want to do that.." he frowned at Marco.

Marco only brought the gun in case their plan went wrong like this one happening right now, he only wanted to scare him until he got away. He didn't plan on using it...

"M-Marco..anong ginagawa mo?" the boy behind him whispered.

"Hindi ko ipuputok, tatakutin ko lang para makaalis ako" he whispered back but kept his gaze to the man in front of him.

One step forward became two, then three. In seconds, the man was closer to Marco than before. His grip on the gun tightened in case the man wanted to do something stupid.

"Marco..." the man touched the head of the gun.

"We can talk this out son.." he inhaled a breath.

"Wag ganito" the man said softly. Pleadingly.

The rain outside the house grew harsher. Raindrops fell harshly unto the roof, creating a pelting sound. Water covered the whole neighborhood. In other houses, the sounds of barking dogs were heard. Some were still up and watching television at this moment.

But at this certain house, at 2:43 in the morning...

A gunshot went off.

The next morning, the house was surrounded by police tapes. The neighbors' eyes scoped up the scene of two dead bodies being dragged out of the door...

And a boy, with a stoic face, watching the ambulance carry off his parent's body to the morgue.
