Just hours after things seem to cool down a bit, Damian was about to grab his bike when Alex showed up with Amara.
"What's up?" Damian asked,
"Look, I don't know how you do it, but thanks a lot for calling for help," Alex replied,
"Well, you both might wanna take it easy now." Damian assured him, "Hopefully, none of us will encounter stuff like that ever again."
"Yeah. I hope so." Amara said, "Alright, we gotta go."
"Ok. See ya!" Alex high-fived Damian, "Good game though!"
"Yeah," Damian replied as he got his bike but before he could ride it back home, he saw Maria sitting on a bench outside the school grounds.
At first, he was a little hesitant to approach her but at the back of his mind told him that something might be going on in her head.
He took a deep breath and walked up towards her. "Hi," he said
Maria looked at her right and saw him, "Oh, hi."
"What are you doing here at a time like this?"
"Just waiting for my ride."
"I see."
Damian then noticed something in her hand. It was the note he slipped in her locker.
"What's that in your hand?" he asked,
Maria looked down at the note she was holding. "I, uh, found it in my locker."
"What does it say?"
"Well, it was a poem sent by someone."
"What was it about?"
Maria unfolded the paper and began reading the poem:
" 'Seeing you is like seeing the brightest day,
your eyes sparkle like the stars in every way
But if there's one thing I have to say, --' "
" 'Will you go out to the Prom with me this Valentine's Day?' " Damian finished the sentence.
"How'd you know tha-?" Maria was about to ask until she pieced it together, "Did you write this?" she asked,
"Yeah," Damian replied, embarrassed.
Both of them were silent for a while...
"To be honest, that is very sweet of you to say." Maria then said,
"You think so?" Damian asked,
Maria nodded, "No one ever sent me something like this."
She then saw a car drive by and her dad in it. "Gotta go," she told Damian.
"Wait. What is your answer?" he asked,
Before she went inside, she looked at him in the eye and smiled. "Guess I'll see you at the Prom," she replied,
"So, that's a 'Yes'? " Damian asked,
Maria just smiled at him as she went inside the car.
As the car drove away, Damian was speechless. He couldn't believe that it worked but it did! He then got on his bike and rode back home smiling from ear to ear.
