—>four months later<—
peter and i had been dating for almost six months now. half of a year. people were getting used to the fact that we were inseparable.
we were always hanging out, going on at least three dates a week. we goofed off and he made me happy. the happiest i'd ever been before.
peter still hadn't told me why he always disappeared, but it started to happen less, so i didn't ask again. he'd tell me when he was ready.
we were walking down to the cafeteria when peter leaned over and whispered, "date night?"
"when and where?"
"the roof. at seven?"
"sounds perfect."
so, at seven, i headed to my roof, where peter was already waiting. i had no clue how he ever got up there but i knew he was really athletic so i didn't really question it.
"hey, willow."
i hugged him, putting my chin against his chest and looking up at him. "hey, peter."
he kissed my forehead. then pulled me toward the blanket. "i was thinking we could have a picnic, and then we could play music and dance."
"amazing," i beamed.
he looked around. "shit. i forgot cups." he was about to stand when he stopped. "actually, i have to tell you something."
"okay?..."
"so you know how you asked me about why i always disappear?" i nodded, and he inhaled deeply. "i'm spiderman."
i laughed. "right."
he reached into his pocket and pulled out a mask. the spiderman mask. i slowly reached out and grabbed it, running the material through my fingers.
"i saw the news, peter."
"that said i was spider-man?"
"yeah. but i thought it was just a joke. i didn't realize..."
he nodded. "well. i'm going to get some cups." he stood, kissing my forehead again. "i'll be right back."
i wrinkled my nose playfully. "i'll be here, spidey boy."
i was playing on my phone when i heard the door open again. i turned, expecting peter, but instead i saw a man with a shaved head. i put my phone down and stood. "uh, hello. sorry. are we not supposed to be up here?"
"where's your boyfriend?" he sneered.
"in- inside," i pointed to the door. i slowly backed away from him. he was scaring me.
he walked forward, toward me. soon, i hit the cement with my back. he was right in front of me.
i raised my knee to hurt him, but he grabbed my neck.
i grabbed his hand, trying to pry it off.
he slowly began lifting me off of the ground, i kicked my feet.
"do you think your little hero of boyfriend will save you this time?"
he started walking closer to the edge. "please," i choked out. "don't do this."
he hovered me over the street. i looked down, my heart racing. i closed my eyes.
and the door opened again. "i got spider-man cups for us, will-" i opened my eyes to see him drop the cups. i saw fear take over his features.
"please."
the man holding me smirked. "say goodbye, spider-boy."
peter ran forward; i was thankful for his quickness for once. he was almost here when the guy let go.
i was falling.
"PETER," the loudness of my yell felt like it was ripping my throat apart. i screamed as i fell the rest of the way, then-
H I T.
i cried out.
