"i'm going to ned's!"
"okay, stay safe! text me when you get there!"
peter slipped his earbuds in and went out the door. he got to the end of the street and instead of going right, he went left. away from ned's house.
he made it to pepper's house and saw her outside. he kept his head down and walked to the back, to tony's grave.
he collapsed to the ground, letting his phone fall. he traced the letters of anthony edward stark, letting the tears fall.
he knew pepper and morgan were right inside, so he put a hand against his mouth to cover his sobs. after he composed himself, he uncovered his mouth and wiped his eyes.
"hi, mr stark." peter pulled his bag off his back and pulled his letter out. "i'm not even sure you can hear me, but this is was mit's response to my application. i couldn't open it without you. so here it goes, i guess."
he shakily opened it, careful not to rip the actual letter.
he didn't think he'd get in. he knew he wasn't as smart as tony has been. he knew he never would be. but he hoped he could. he just wanted to make tony proud. he hadn't done better but maybe if he possibly got in, it would be enough.
he read it. he read it again. and again and again. "accepted. accepted." he jumped up. "I GOT ACCEPTED."
"he would be proud of you, you know." peter turned to see pepper, morgan in her arms. "he was already really proud of you."
peter nodded, still smiling. "i miss him a lot, mrs. potts. i wish i could've, done something."
"me too, peter. he just wanted you to live your life. to do THIS."
"daddy loved you!" morgan giggled. "he told me not to tell anyone but you were his favorite superhero."
peter's heart soared. "really?"
pepper set morgan down, who then ran off to play with the alpacas. "tony always told her bedtime stories about you."
peter sat on the ground, staring at the headstone. tony was under there, forever. it was still unreal to him sometimes.
pepper touched his shoulder. "i'm glad you came here because there's something i need to show you."
"what?" peter looked up, shocked.
pepper sighed and called for happy. peter hadn't even realized he was there. "could you watch morgan for me? i have to show peter..." she trailed off, but happy must've known about it because he just nodded.
"come inside." so peter did. once peter was seated on their couch, she told him to close his eyes. so he did.
"hey, pete." peter immediately opened his eyes to see tony. a hologram, but him. he immediately started crying as he leaned forward. "i recorded this beforehand. i recorded a lot actually, just in case it didn't work out with my life. if you're watching this, apparently it didn't." he grinned, causing peter's face to brighten. it was great to see tony's smile, hologram or not. "anyway. i just want to tell you how proud i am of you. of everything you've done. but i'm most proud of is the fact that you got accepted into mit." peter gasped. he never expected to hear that. tony chuckled as peter's cries worsened. the timing was horrible, but tony couldn't have known that. he never would've guessed how miserable peter was now. "i was thinking of preparing a video for if you didn't get in. but i'm not going to do that because i know you got accepted. you're a smart kid. i hope you keep striving for the best. i'm sorry i never told you before, but i love you, kid. and i'm so proud of you." he winked. "take care of pepper and morgan for me." then he disappeared.
"i love you too tony." he knew tony couldn't hear him, but he had to say it.
pepper hugged him. "he left a note and said to give this to you."
so peter hugged her back, wishing it was really tony stark that was holding him.
