jake's hands were shaking as he dropped his phone. he hadn't wanted tom to hang up because he still didn't know what bar they were at. he hoped it was the one tom usually went to.
he knew he shouldn't be going. tom wasn't his boyfriend anymore. but he was worried.
his friends cared about him, but tom was stubborn. he wouldn't let them drive him home if he didn't want them to. he had to make sure he was okay.
he arrived at tom's usual bar and turned the car off. he saw tom's car parked at the side. good, he was here.
he looked at the cup holder, where tom's necklace still lay. he missed him already, too. he hated seeing tom upset, especially when it was his fault.
he finally got the courage to step out of his car and go inside. as soon as he stepped through the door, his eyes roamed the inside. he kept his eyes off the dance floor because he knew tom hated dancing. he never wanted to dance when jake asked him to.
he found tom's friends sitting down, but didn't see tom, so he headed over there. sam saw him first. "jake?"
jake rubbed the back of his neck. "hey. uh, where's tom?"
no one replied. instead, they all just looked at each other. tuwaine muttered, "i think you should go home."
"what, why?"
he saw harrison glance behind him, so he turned.
there he was. his tom. but he wasn't alone. he was dancing with a girl.
her back was to his chest as he swayed back and forth. jake felt his heart drop.
he bit his lip as tears came to his eyes. that's why tom wanted to break up. he wanted someone else. at least she was his age. he could be public with her. "right." he took a shaky step backward. "right. well it seems like he's fine, great actually."
jake needed a drink. but not now. he couldn't let tom see him.
"jake, it's not what it looks like. tom's just-"
jake shook his head. "no, it's fine." he turned around. "i'm going home."
so he did.
and tom didn't know he was there. he didn't know he had even called jake. but he regretted everything when he woke up with the blonde in his bed the next morning.
