y/n got up, and of course Nate was sleeping. It was his turn to leave a note. It said:

Hey Nate,

Don't stay up so later playing that. Did you do that most of the day? I'm going to go finish what you didn't over in Octo Canyon. Hope you're up soon and not too tired,

n/n

================================================================================

y/n arrived, and only y/n.

Marie: ... Where's Nate?

y/n: He's sleeping. He stayed up late playing RDR2.

Marie: What's that?

y/n: Do you remember me talking about how video games can be like movies during my interview? They're also a good way of learning about humans.

Marie: And?

y/n: Well, he stayed up late last night and the night before playing video games. It seems today his sleeping habit has caught up with him.

Marie: So was he actually tired when he went home at 1?

y/n: Probably, but video games can do wonders to a normal sleep schedule. And basic needs. Before, I wouldn't feel hunger, I'd just sit at my computer all day! When I had a day off, of course.

Marie: How'd that end up for you?

y/n: ... I didn't feel so good the next day...

Marie: Well, we've got work to do. I noticed that you trusting your gut feeling and leaving was a good decision for you, because there were a lot of obstacles that only an inkling could pass.

y/n: ... So is there anything I can do right now?

Marie: Well, this kettle is where you collect mini zapfish scattered across the area. You just need to fend off the Octolings.

y/n: Are these any different than those brain dead scum I killed?

Marie: These ones look more like inklings, and seem to be mind controlled by something.

y/n: Well, I'll do my best.

================================================================================

y/n popped out of the kettle into an area that looked like a turf war map he'd seen online, only with the psychedelic gray background, and more metal. A little drone thing appeared in front of him, and dropped a weapon.

Sheldon: Hey, Agent 4, could you- wait a minute... you're not him! n/n, is it? Well, If you could put that back in the drone, that would be appreciated. I think you'll like this-

After the drone took the weapon back to... wherever it came from, it came back, and dropped a weapon that looked like the one y/n had tested yesterday, only with slight grip improvements.

Sheldon: Let's see how you do with that! Go get em' agent A!

Marie: What?

Sheldon: We agreed that should be his new agent name. Because 0 was for the Cap'n. Right?

Marie: Yeah... I forgot about that. Well-

unnamed agent: I did not agree to be A.

Marie: Of course. Um... "Snake"?

unnamed agent: I'd rather be an agent...

y/n already had the suit, and the guns. He wasn't using them, but he could still have the code name.

unnamed agent: Call me 47. I'll change it to something else later.

Marie: Nope. You're going to be... Let's just see what I call you in the field, ok?

unnamed agent: Yep.

y/n hung up his end of the transmission, because he could see a group of octolings coming at him. They looked like inklings, but just had Octopus tentacles as hair. They seemed to not be coded to do attack maneuvers, because they were pretty sloppy in the way they approached. Just coded for loyalty. y/n aimed the gun and fired at the closest- it died in 3 shots. The other octolings all readied their weapons and fired, but y/n ran into all the fire and punched an octoling in the face, splatting it. He had slightly less vision because of an ink shot on his helmet, but he could see the other two octolings, and quickly took them out.

y/n didn't know how much time he had until reinforcements came, so he snatched all the mini zapfish he could. He finally saw the respawn pad, and they were coming at him again.

Sheldon: Hey, A! That thing is meant to be used at range like that! Go ahead and try to hit them!

He was at least 8 yards away from the nearest octoling, but sure enough, they were all gone in a few seconds, with some well placed shots.

Marie: Good work, 47.

He was nearing the last mini zapfish when he heard a clicking noise behind him. He tried to turn around and aim at the noise, but the shot was fired. It was a charger, fully charged, from point blank distance into his side.. It hurt, but y/n used his adrenaline rush to kill every octoling he saw.

2: Are you okay? That can't be good...

It stung, badly. y/n had some pain tolerance, so he sucked it up and collected the last mini zapfish, and headed back to Octo canyon.

Marie: n/n, are you okay?

She went over to see if he was wounded badly.

y/n: It's not a big deal, I signed up for this. No one is perfect. I might have a bruise or something, but it'll heal.

He wasn't bleeding, but his skin felt raw, like it just got a big slap. The muscles over there were less stable, too.

Marie: That was all you could do until the boss kettle, anyways.

Nate had arrived.

Nate: What Happened?

Marie: He took a charger shot to the side. Less than 3 feet away.

Nate: That's gotta be really bad, even for a human... A charger shot at that distance would've splatted any inkling. And the person standing behind them.

y/n: I'm just going to rest here for a while...

Nate: I'm not going to leave you like this.

y/n: Yes you are. You're an agent. A soldier. Go do your duty, 4.

And with that, y/n closed his eyes.
